Don Quixote (1957 Film)
''Don Quixote'' (russian: Дон Кихот, translit. Don Kikhot) is a 1957 Soviet drama film directed by Grigori Kozintsev. It is based on Evgeny Schwartz's stage adaptation of Miguel de Cervantes's novel of the same name. It was entered into the 1957 Cannes Film Festival. The film was exhibited in the mid-1960s by Australian University film clubs receiving the productions of Sovexportfilm. It was the first film version of ''Don Quixote'' to be filmed in both widescreen and color. Grigori Kozintsev
Grigori Mikhailovich Kozintsev (russian: link=no, Григорий Михайлович Козинцев; 11 May 1973) was a Soviet theatre and film director, screenwriter and pedagogue. He was named People's Artist of the USSR in 1964. In 1965 he was a member of the jury at the 4th Moscow International Film Festival. Two years later he was a member of the jury of the 5th Moscow International Film Festival. In 1971 he was the President of the Jury at the 7th Moscow International Film Festival. Biography Grigori Kozintsev was born in the family of a doctor, therapist and pediatrician Moisei Isaakovich Kozintsov (1859–1930) and his wife Anna Grigorievna Lurie was from a rabbinical family from Kyiv. Georgy Mikhailovich Vitsin (russian: Георгий Михайлович Вицин; 18 April 1917 – 22 October 2001) was a Soviet and Russian actor. People's Artist of the USSR (1990). Biography Vitsin was born in Terijoki, former Finland, now Zelenogorsk, Saint Petersburg in 1917 (Soviet documents list him as having been born in Petrograd — now Saint Petersburg). Galina Borisovna (Berovna) Volchek (russian: Гали́на Бори́совна Во́лчек; 19 December 1933 – 26 December 2019) was a Soviet and Russian stage and film actress, theater director and pedagogue. Bruno Arturovich Freindlich (russian: Бруно Артурович Фрейндлих; 10 October 1909 – 9 July 2002) was a Soviet and Russian actor. People's Artist of the USSR (1974). His daughter Alisa Freindlich is also a notable actress. Biography A native of Saint Petersburg and of German ancestry, Bruno Freindlich began his career as an actor performing for audiences of children. For two years he worked at the Bolshoi Theatre of Drama. Since 1948, he was a leading actor of the former Alexandrine Theatre.
