Don Manson
Donald Manson (born 1919) was a rugby league player who played for South Sydney on the wing from 1937 to 1939. Rugby league career He made his debut in round 1 of the 1937 season against University. In his first two matches he scored six tries, the last player to accomplish such a feat till Charlie Staines in 2020. By the start of the 1938 season, he was considered to "be on the up and up". He was the NSWRFL's leading try-scorer for the 1938 season, and that year he appeared for the New South Wales Blues. During the 1939 season, Manson went on a tour to New Zealand as part of a side coached by Ray Stehr. After his return, South Sydney did not name him in their line-up for either their first, reserves or third side, a decision which was considered surprising by the ''Daily News''. The 1938 New South Wales Rugby Football League premiership was the thirty-first season of Sydney’s top-grade rugby league club competition, Australia’s first. The withdrawal of the Sydney University rugby league team, University club at the end of the previous season saw eight teams from across the city contest the premiership, which lasted from April until September and culminated in Canterbury-Bankstown's victory over Eastern Suburbs in the final. Ray Stehr
Raymond Ernest Stehr (24 January 1913 – 2 June 1983) was an Australian rugby league footballer, a New South Wales Rugby League team, state and Australia national rugby league team, national representative player whose club career was played at Sydney's Sydney Roosters, Eastern Suburbs club. He has been named as one of the nation's finest footballers of the 20th century. Early life Stehr was born in the country New South Wales town of Warialda in 1913 of Germans, German descent. As an eight-year-old child, he was diagnosed an ''incurable cripple'' after developing blood clots at the base of his spine. He was unable to walk for two years and spent twelve months strapped to a stretcher, completely immobilised with his back encased in a plaster cast. His family moved to Sydney in search of some kind of miracle cure and, following a visit to a Chinese people, Chinese herbalist, the clots began to disappear.
