Don Manning is a former American football linebacker at the University of California, Los Angeles. He was a consensus All-American in 1967. College career Manning lettered for the UCLA Bruins football team under coach Tommy Prothro during the 1965, 1966 and 1967 seasons. He made 1st team All-Coast team in both the 1966 and 1967 seasons. Linebacker (LB) is a playing position in gridiron football. Linebackers are members of the defensive team, and line up three to five yards behind the line of scrimmage and the defensive linemen. They are the "middle ground" of defenders, playing closer to the line of scrimmage than the defensive backs (secondary), but farther back than the defensive linemen. 1968 NFL Draft
The 1968 National Football League draft was part of the common draft, in the second year in which the NFL and AFL held a joint draft of college players. It took place at the Belmont Plaza Hotel in New York City on January 30–31, 1968. Gary Joseph Beban (born August 5, 1946) is an American former professional football player. Beban won the 1967 Heisman Trophy, narrowly beating out O.J. Simpson, and the Maxwell Award while playing quarterback for the UCLA Bruins. He played professional football for two seasons in the National Football League (NFL) with the Washington Redskins. James Thompson "Tommy" Prothro Jr. (July 20, 1920 – May 14, 1995) was an American football coach.
