Don Juan (1998 Film)
''Don Juan'' is a 1998 French-language film written and directed by Jacques Weber, starring Weber himself, alongside Michel Boujenah, Penélope Cruz, and Emmanuelle Béart. The screenplay is based on the play ''Dom Juan'' by Molière. Plot Spain in the mid-seventeenth century. A series of bloody wars has ravaged the nation. Don Juan the nobleman and his servants Sganarelle and La Violette roam the countryside on horseback, pursued by the brothers Alonse and Carlos, who seek revenge for the insult to the honor of their sister, Donna Elvire. Don Juan seduces two young women, Mathurine and Charlotte, who fight with each other to win his heart. In the end, Don Juan meets with his father and mother and repents for his past sins. Jacques Weber
Jacques Weber is a French actor, director, and writer. Life and career Weber joined the Conservatoire national supérieur d'art dramatique at the age of 20, and won the Prix d'Excellence when he left. He joined Robert Hossein in Rheims, and began a rich theatrical career and a sporadic cinema career. Marcel Cravenne hired him in 1970 for ''Tartuffe''. In 1972, he was Haroun in ''Faustine et le Bel Été'' and played the role of Hugo in '' État de siège'' by Costa-Gavras. He was seduced by Claude Jade in '' Le Malin Plaisir'' (1975), and by Anicée Alvina in '' Une femme fatale'' (1976). The young actor with much ''sex-appeal'' (he appeared in ''Le Malin Plaisir'' completely naked) was in '' Bel Ami'' (1983) after the 1885 novel by Guy de Maupassant in the adaptation by Pierre Cardinal. Claudia Gravy (born 12 May 1945) is a Spanish nationalized actress born as Marie-Claude Perin in Boma, Democratic Republic of the Congo when it was the Belgian Congo. Career Claudia has lived in Madrid since 1965, when she made her debut in the cinema with Fernando Fernán Gómez's adaption of Miguel Mihura's work, ''Ninette y un señor de Murcia''.
