''Don't Stop the Carnival'' is the twenty-second studio album by American singer-songwriter Jimmy Buffett. It was released on Margaritaville Records and Island Records on April 28, 1998. Based on the 1965 novel of the same name written by Herman Wouk. Wouk also worked with Buffett to produce the stage play that lasted only for a short run in Miami, Florida in 1997. The album contains 20 compositions to promote the stage play. It reached #15 in the Billboard 200 albums chart. This was Buffett's first album for Island Records since parting ways MCA Records in 1996. James William Buffett (born December 25, 1946) is an American singer-songwriter, musician, author, and businessman. He is best known for his music, which often portrays an "island escapism" lifestyle. Michael Utley
Michael Edward Utley is an American musician, songwriter, and record producer for Jimmy Buffett's Coral Reefer Band. He is the musical director of the band. Born in Blytheville in Mississippi County, Arkansas, he graduated from the University of Arkansas where he was initiated into the Sigma Chi Fraternity. He was recognized by Sigma Chi as a Significant Sig in 2017. Early in his career, Utley worked with the house band for Atlantic Records in Miami, Florida's Criteria Studios backing performers such as Aretha Franklin, Jerry Jeff Walker, and the Allman Brothers and in California playing with Rita Coolidge and Kris Kristofferson. Jerry Jeff Walker recruited Utley to play keyboard instruments on Buffett's first major label album, ''A White Sport Coat and a Pink Crustacean'', in 1973. ''Christmas Island'' is Jimmy Buffett's first Christmas album and is his twenty-first studio album overall. It features covers of popular Christmas songs in Buffett's musical stylings as well as two tracks which Buffett wrote for the album. "Twas the Night Before Christmas" is a hidden track. It was his last release with MCA Records. Critical reception Reviews tend to be mixed for the album. In a positive review, a reviewer states that " 'Christmas Island''will have you on your feet all through the holidays."
