"Don't Look Back" is a song written by blues singer-songwriter John Lee Hooker, and released as a single in 1964. As a duet, Hooker later performed the song with the Northern Irish singer-songwriter Van Morrison. It was a Grammy Award winner in Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals in 1998 from the album, '' Don't Look Back''. Song history This song had a long history with Hooker and Morrison over the years. It was covered by Van Morrison's band Them on their debut album, ''The Angry Young Them'' in 1965. The album's sleeve had a comment on the song which read: "John Lee Hooker hailed as one of the greatest R&B singers in the world wrote 'Don't Look Back'....Perhaps it isn't so extraordinary that this soulful ballad sounds uncannily like a Morrison original as the two men have a lot in common." John Lee Hooker
John Lee Hooker (August 22, 1912 or 1917 – June 21, 2001) was an American blues singer, songwriter, and guitarist. The son of a sharecropper, he rose to prominence performing an electric guitar-style adaptation of Delta blues. Hooker often incorporated other elements, including talking blues and early North Mississippi hill country blues. He developed his own driving-rhythm boogie style, distinct from the 1930s–1940s piano-derived boogie-woogie. Hooker was ranked 35 in ''Rolling Stone''s 2015 list of 100 greatest guitarists. Some of his best known songs include "Boogie Chillen'" (1948), "Crawling King Snake" (1949), "Dimples" (1956), " Boom Boom" (1962), and "One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer" (1966). ''The Best of Van Morrison Volume Two'' is a compilation album by Northern Irish singer-songwriter Van Morrison released in 1993. Morrison chose the tracks for this album himself. It is mostly drawn from his work during 1984–1991. "Real Real Gone" from the 1990 album '' Enlightenment'' was the only song included that was a fairly successful single. The other songs were not well known except for among longtime fans. They were a good example of his more idiosyncratic material that had been prevalent during this period when his work was mostly about spiritual searches for fulfillment. ''Sonola'' is the debut studio album by Australian rock band The Black Sorrows. The album was released in June 1984 and consisted of cover versions of soul and R&B songs. Background In 1983, following the disbanding of Jo Jo Zep, Joe Camilleri gathered together a group of musician friends and dubbed them The Black Sorrows. The band began playing mostly covers of R&B, zydeco, soul and blues music 'for the fun of it'. Camilleri says; "I remember playing birthday parties and weddings, just so I could get enough money to make a record. We made ''Sonola'' for $1300. I just wanted to have some sort of documentation that we existed. We did the artwork and screen-printed the covers. ''Van Morrison in Ireland'' is the first official video by Northern Irish singer-songwriter Van Morrison, released in 1981 of a concert Morrison recorded in Northern Ireland in 1979. It was directed by Michael Radford who later became a noted filmmaker. The video includes footage of the band whilst touring in Ireland and images of Belfast, including Hyndford Street and Cyprus Avenue. Tony Stewart of the NME states, "The band display a range of textures reminiscent of The Caledonia Soul Orchestra, first with the dark resonance of Toni Marcus' violin, then Pat Kyle's bright sharp tenor sax and finally Bobby Tench's prickly electric guitar".
