Dominique Bakry
Roger-Dominique Bakry (born 12 December 1954), known as Dominique Bakry, is a French mathematician, a professor at the Université Paul-Sabatier in Toulouse, and a senior member of Institut Universitaire de France. Bakry graduated from , and prepared his PhD under the advisory of Paul-André Meyer and Marc Yor. Before coming to Toulouse, he was chargé de recherches at CNRS in Université Louis Pasteur of Strasbourg. His scientific work is at the interface of Analysis, Probability, and Geometry. His most influential works concern Riesz transforms and Markov semigroups. Paul Sabatier University (''Université Paul Sabatier'', UPS, also known as Toulouse III) is a French public university, in the Academy of Toulouse. The Institut Universitaire de France (IUF, Academic Institute of France), is a service of the French Ministry of Higher Education that distinguishes each year a small number of university professors for their research excellence, as evidenced by their international recognition. It was created to become a new "Collège de France", located in French universities. Only 2% of French university professors have been currently distinguished by the Institut Universitaire de France. Paul-André Meyer
Paul-André Meyer (21 August 1934 – 30 January 2003) was a French mathematician, who played a major role in the development of the general theory of stochastic processes. He worked at the Institut de Recherche Mathématique (IRMA) in Strasbourg and is known as the founder of the 'Strasbourg school' in stochastic analysis. Biography Meyer was born in 1934 in Boulogne, a suburb of Paris. His family fled from France in 1940 and sailed to Argentina, settling in Buenos Aires, where Paul-André attended a French school. He returned to Paris in 1946 and entered the Lycée Janson de Sailly, where he first encountered advanced mathematics through his teacher, M Heilbronn. He entered the École Normale Supérieure in 1954 where he studied mathematics. There, he attended lectures on probability by Michel Loève, a former disciple of Paul Lévy who had come from Berkeley to spend a year in Paris. Marc Yor (24 July 1949 – 9 January 2014) was a French mathematician well known for his work on stochastic processes, especially properties of semimartingales, Brownian motion and other Lévy processes, the Bessel processes, and their applications to mathematical finance. Louis Pasteur University (''Université Louis-Pasteur''), also known as Strasbourg I or ULP was a large university in Strasbourg, Alsace, France.
