Dolores, Uruguay
Dolores is a city in the Soriano Department of western Uruguay. Location The city is located in the west part of the Soriano's department, on the left banks of San Salvador River, about before it discharges into the Uruguay River. It is almost entirely surrounded by the populated rural area known as Chacras de Dolores. It has a natural port and is connected with the rest of the country by Routes 21 and 96. History It was founded in September 1801. It had acquired the status of "Villa" (town) before the Independence of Uruguay under the name "San Salvador". On 26 November 1923, its status was elevated to "Ciudad" (city) by the Act of Ley Nº 7.652. 2016 tornado On April 15, 2016, a major tornado struck Dolores, killing four people and injuring 200 more. Uruguay consists of 19 departments (''departamentos''). Each department has a legislature called a Departmental Board. The ''Intendente'' is the department's chief executive. History The first division of the Republic into six departments occurred on 27 January 1816. In February of the same year, two more departments were formed, and in 1828 one more was added. When the First Constitution was signed in 1830, there were nine departments. These were the departments of Montevideo, Maldonado, Canelones, San José, Colonia, Soriano, Paysandú, Durazno and Cerro Largo. Municipalities Of Uruguay
The Uruguayan departments are subdivided into municipalities and, as of 2022, there are 125 municipalities. This second level administrative division system was created by Law No. 18567 of 13 September 2009 and the first municipalities were created (or converted from Local Boards in the previous system) in March 2010. In the municipal elections of 2010 municipal authorities were elected for the first time and they assumed office months later. Each municipality is governed by a local council, made up of 5 members. Uruguay's calling code is +598. Since 2010, national long distance calling was eliminated, thus there are no area codes in each city. Landline telephony ANTEL (Spanish abbreviation for National Administration of Telecommunications) is Uruguay's state-owned company for telecommunications. Previously in Uruguay, phone numbers used to have between 4 and 7 digits. To make a local phone call, you only had to dial those digits. To make a call between two cities from different departments, you had to dial zero, plus area code, plus phone number. Soriano () is a department of Uruguay. Its capital is Mercedes. It is located on the west of the country, south of RÃo Negro Department, north of Colonia Department and west of Flores Department. Its western border is the RÃo Uruguay, separating it from Argentina. History In 1624, a Franciscan Mission established a reduction for the indigenous tribes of the area named Santo Domingo Soriano. ''Nuestra'' is the debut studio album of the Venezuelan rock band La Vida Bohème, released in August 2010. Recorded and produced by Rudy Pagliuca, it is a free download on the website of the record label All of the Above.
