Dolly Gray (baseball)
William Denton "Dolly" Gray (December 4, 1878 – April 4, 1956) was a left-handed professional baseball pitcher who played from 1909 to 1911 for the Washington Senators. One source says he was born in Ishpeming, Michigan. Before the big leagues Dolly Gray began his professional career during or before the 1902 season. In 1902, he pitched for the Los Angeles Angels of the old California League. Following the 1902 season, the Angels joined to the Pacific Coast League, and in 1903 they had one of the greatest seasons in minor league baseball history, with 133 wins against 78 losses. Gray went 23–20 with a 3.55 ERA that season. In 1904, Gray went 24–26, in 1905, he went 30–16, in 1906, he went 7–2 (during the 1906 season, Gray and many other West Coast players left to play on the East Coast after the great 1906 San Francisco earthquake), in 1907 he went 32–14 and in 1908 he went 26–11. Dolly Sinatra
Dolly Sinatra (; born Natalina Maria Vittoria Garaventa; ; December 26, 1896 – January 6, 1977) was the mother of American singer Frank Sinatra. She was born in Lumarzo ( Province of Genoa), in northern Italy; she immigrated to the United States as an infant. Dolly married Antonino Martino "Marty" Sinatra in 1914, and in 1915 the couple's only child, Frank Sinatra, was born. Dolly was influential in the Sinatras' neighborhood in Hoboken, New Jersey, where they later operated a tavern during Prohibition. She became involved in politics and worked as a midwife. It is believed that she also provided an illegal abortion service in the area. She died in a plane crash in 1977. Dorothy Pentreath (16 May 1692 aptised– 26 December 1777) was a fishwife from Mousehole, Cornwall, England. She is the best-known of the last fluent speakers of the Cornish language. She is also often credited as the last known native speaker of Cornish, although sources support the existence of other younger speakers of the language who survived her. Dolly Peel
Dorothy Peel (1782–1857), better known as Dolly Peel, was a famous character in the Victorian era in South Shields, England, who acquired local legendary status. She is commemorated by a statue in the centre of the town. Dolly Gee was a Chinese-American banker. She was the manager of San Francisco's Chinatown branch of the Bank of America for 34 years and is considered the first woman bank manager in America. Biography Gee was born in China and came to the United States as an infant in 1901. When Gee was 15 or 16 years old, her father, Charles F. Gee, was looking for a young person to work with the French American Bank to develop its business in San Francisco's Chinatown. Gee persuaded her father to introduce her to the hiring manager and she was given the opportunity. She successfully signed up new customers for the bank and when the bank opened a branch in Chinatown in 1923, Gee became manager. In 1929 the bank merged with the Bank of America and the branch moved location, however Gee remained as branch manager. He was a school teacher by profession, working for the Marist Brothers, a Catholic religious order. Robert 'Dolly' Dunn taught science at Marist Brothers Penshurst, NSW from 1971 to 1987. He began a 20-year jail sentence in 2001 for 24 sexual offences occurring between 1985 and 1995. In 1996, a Royal Commission chaired by Justice James Woods was shown home videos and photographs from Dunn's collection, which included many images of child sex abuse, usually featuring Dunn himself as the perpetrator. Albert D. "Dolly" Stark (November 4, 1897 – August 24, 1968) was an American umpire in Major League Baseball who worked in the National League from 1928 to 1935 and from 1937 to 1940. Stark was the first Jewish umpire in modern baseball. Early life Stark was born to a working-class Jewish family in Manhattan's Lower East Side. Stark's father died when he was young and his mother became blind, and Stark was taken into a home for homeless children after being found sleeping on the street by a policeman.
