Doggone Cats
''Doggone Cats'' (reissued as ''Dog Gone Cats''), is a 1947 Warner Bros. ''Merrie Melodies'' cartoon directed by Arthur Davis. The short was released on October 25, 1947, and stars Sylvester. Plot Wellington the dog is given a package to deliver to Uncle Louie, with strict instructions not to let go of it. Sylvester and his unnamed brother both of whom Wellington has been tormenting, see this as their chance to get even. They try multiple ways to get him to drop the package (one of which is disguising a cigarette from pepper and using it to make him sneeze), but Wellington always outsmarts them. Besides repeatedly filching the package, at one point they drop a duplicate off a bridge. Wellington still manages to retrieve the package a few times, but never for as long as he hopes for. At the end of the cartoon, Wellington finally arrives at Uncle Louie's, but is upset when he finds out that the package contains dinner for the two cats. "Doggone Right" is a 1969 single recorded by The Miracles (aka Smokey Robinson & The Miracles) for the Tamla label. Written by Miracles members Smokey Robinson and Marv Tarplin along with Motown staff songwriter Al Cleveland and produced by Robinson, the single peaked at number 32 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100 in the United States. It was also a Top 10 R&B hit, peaking at #7. "Doggone Right" was the A-side to the double-sided Miracles' hit single, Tamla T54183. "Here I Go Again", contrary to popular belief, was the "B" side, although both sides charted within the top 40 of the Hot 100. Background Smokey Robinson sings the main lead vocal on the song. Miracles bass singer, Warren "Pete" Moore, has got also a lead on the part where he echos "Doggone right", first sung by the group. "I'll Be Doggone" is a 1965 song recorded by American soul singer Marvin Gaye and released on the Tamla label. The song talks about how a man tells his woman that he'll be "doggone" about simple things but if she did him wrong that he'd be "long gone". The song was written by Smokey Robinson, Warren Moore and Marv Tarplin, initially for The Temptations, who rejected the song. It became his first million-selling record and his first number-one single on the R&B chart, staying there for two weeks, and was the first song Gaye recorded with Smokey Robinson as one of the songwriters of the record. The song was co-written by Robinson's fellow Miracles members Pete Moore and Marv Tarplin. The Miracles also sang background on this recording, along with Motown's long-standing female back-up group, The Andantes, and Miracle Marv Tarplin played lead guitar. So Doggone Lonesome
"So Doggone Lonesome" is a song written and recorded by American country music singer Johnny Cash. He and his band ( The Tennessee Two) recorded the song in a studio session at Sun Records studios at 706 Union Avenue in Memphis, Tennessee. The session took place on July 30, 1955, when the trio also recorded "Luther Played The Boogie" (a homage to the group's lead guitarist, Luther Perkins) and "Mean Eyed Cat", the latter of which Cash reprised on his Unchained album for Rick Rubin's American Recordings. Cash was a great admirer of Ernest Tubb, and wrote "So Doggone Lonesome" with him in mind. Many of Cash's self-penned recordings were written with a certain artist in mind, including "Get Rhythm", originally written for Elvis Presley. Legend has it that Tubb heard "So Doggone Lonesome" on the radio, which inspired him to record his own version of the song.
