Dodgeville Municipal Airport
The Dodgeville Municipal Airport was a municipal airfield near Dodgeville, Wisconsin. Originally name the Governor Dodge Quinn Airport, it operated from approximately 1967 until around 1989–1990. The property was later bought by a local construction firm. As of 2017, the runway, ramp, and hangar still exist, with the outdoor paved surfaces used for equipment storage. The only surviving airport in Iowa County is in Mineral Point, Wisconsin. History Built at some point between May and December 1967, it operated as a small, unpaved municipal airport called Governor Dodge Quinn Airport. The exact date is unknown as it doesn't appear on the Milwaukee Sectional Chart until December 1967. It was later renamed Dodgeville at some point within the next 3 years according to the May 1970 Milwaukee Sectional Chart. Dodgeville is a town in Iowa County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 1,407 at the 2000 census. The City of Dodgeville and the unincorporated community of Pleasant Ridge are located in the town. Geography According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 90.3 square miles (233.8 km2), of which, 89.9 square miles (232.7 km2) of it is land and 0.4 square miles (1.0 km2) of it (0.44%) is water. Demographics As of the census of 2000, there were 1,407 people, 510 households, and 395 families residing in the town. The population density was 15.7 people per square mile (6.0/km2). There were 588 housing units at an average density of 6.5 per square mile (2.5/km2). Dodgeville is a city in and the county seat of Iowa County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 4,984 at the 2020 census, making it the county's most populous city. Dodgeville is part of the Madison Metropolitan Statistical Area. History In 1827, Henry Dodge, his family, and about 40 miners began what would become the city of Dodgeville. Dodge made a pact with the local Winnebago Indian leaders so he could build a cabin and smelter. The original community had three settlements: "Dodgeville", "Dirty Hollow" and "Minersville". A fourth settlement, Moon Spring, near the intersection of the present Highway 18 bypass and Bennett Road flourished until the cholera epidemic in the early 1850s. The Boeing C-97 Stratofreighter was a long-range heavy military cargo aircraft developed from the B-29 and B-50 bombers. Design work began in 1942, the first of three prototype XC-97s flew on 9 November 1944 (none saw combat), and the first of six service-test YC-97s flew on 11 March 1947. All nine were based on the 24ST alloy structure and Wright R-3350 engines of the B-29, but with a larger-diameter fuselage upper lobe (making a figure of eight or "double-bubble" section) and they had the B-29 vertical tail with the gunner's position blanked off. Mercury Cougar is a nameplate applied to a diverse series of automobiles sold by the Mercury division of Ford from 1967 to 1997 and from 1999 to 2002.
