Dobson Trail
The Dobson Trail is a 57.75 km hiking trail that runs from Riverview, New Brunswick to Fundy National Park. The trail is named for Dr. Art Dobson, who started the initiative to build the trail in 1959. The trail is the longest volunteer-maintained trail in Eastern Canada. History Dr. Art Dobson began scouting the trail in 1959, following the standards set out in a publication from the Appalachian Trail conference. Over a decade Scout troops from Hillsborough, Riverview, Moncton and Alma blazed the trail under Dobson's direction. The trail was originally referred to as "The Fundy Trail," after Fundy National Park, where the trail led. In the 1960s, the Province of New Brunswick established roadways known as the Fundy trails and Fundy National Park. The Trans Canada Trail, officially named The Great Trail between September 2016 and June 2021, is a cross-Canada system of greenways, waterways, and roadways that stretches from the Atlantic Ocean, Atlantic to the Pacific Ocean, Pacific to the Arctic Ocean, Arctic oceans. The trail extends over ; it is now the longest recreational, multi-use trail network in the world. The idea for the trail began in 1992, shortly after the Canada 125 celebrations. Fundy National Park
Fundy National Park is a national park of Canada located on the Bay of Fundy, near the village of Alma, New Brunswick. It was officially opened on 29 July 1950. The park showcases a rugged coastline which rises up to the Canadian Highlands, the highest tides in the world and more than 25 waterfalls. The park covers an area of along Goose Bay, the northwestern branch of the Bay of Fundy. When one looks across the Bay, one can see the northern Nova Scotia coast. At low tide, park visitors can explore the ocean floor where a variety of sea creatures (e.g., dog whelk, periwinkles, various seaweeds) cling to life. Kent Hills Wind Farm
Kent Hills Wind Farm is a large wind farm project located southeast from Prosser Brook, New Brunswick. The wind farm was completed in three phases between 2008 and 2018. The farm was the first in New Brunswick. It is owned and operated by TransAlta and the power is purchased by NB Power for supply to consumers. As of 2021, the farm consisted of forty-nine 3-megawatt (MW) wind turbines and 5 3.45-MW turbines, for a total capacity of 167 MW. The project produces 580,000 megawatt hours per year. The turbines used are Vestas V90-3MW model, which have a rotor diameter of and sit atop an tower. In October 2021 a tower, in phase two of the project, collapsed because of a bad foundation. Initially all WTG were taken off line as a precaution. TransAlta Renewables have found deficiencies in the design of all of the windmill foundations. Hillsborough is a village in Albert County in the Canadian province of New Brunswick. The village is situated on a hill overlooking the Petitcodiac River near the intersection of Route 910 and Route 114. Hillsborough is the largest settlement in Hillsborough Parish.
