Dobi-I
The Dobi-I was designed by Lithuanian aviator Jurgis Dobkevičius and the first airplane of Lithuanian design. Jurgis Dobkevičius started designing and building Dobi-I in 1921, and it was first tested by its designer in July 1922. The single Dobi-I prototype was damaged beyond repair in an accident on 1 December 1925. The Dobi-II is the second airplane designed by Lithuanian aviator Jurgis Dobkevičius in 1922. It was tested in October 1923. After two landing accidents plans for mass production of Dobi-II were abandoned. Jurgis Dobkevičius
Jurgis Dobkevičius (born March 23, 1900 in Saint Petersburg, died testing his own construction airplane Dobi-III in a crash June 8, 1926 in Kaunas) was a Lithuanian aviator and aircraft designer. Military biography Dobkevičius was a volunteer of the Lithuanian Army and the first officially recognised military pilot of the Lithuanian Air Force, Commander of Air Squadron in 1920. Dobkevičius participated as reconnaissance pilot in Lithuanian-Polish War, completing 24 combat missions. He was also known for his outstanding memory—contemporary sources say that at the dinner table he played one or two games of chess with any opponent without a board. Dobkevičius was one of the first football players in Lithuania, in 1922 playing for "Aviacija", an Air Force team. Flat Twin
A flat-twin engine is a two-cylinder internal combustion engine with the cylinders on opposite sides of the crankshaft. The most common type of flat-twin engine is the boxer-twin engine, where both pistons move inwards and outwards at the same time. The flat-twin design was patented by Karl Benz in 1896 and the first production flat-twin engine was used in the ''Lanchester 8 hp Phaeton'' car released in 1900. The flat-twin engine was used in several other cars since, however a more common usage is in motorcycles; early models oriented the cylinders in line with the frame, however later models switched to the cylinders being perpendicular to the frame to provide even cooling across both cylinders. Flat-twin engines were also used in several aircraft up until the 1930s and in various stationary applications from the 1930s to the 1960s. High-wing Aircraft
A monoplane is a fixed-wing aircraft configuration with a single mainplane, in contrast to a biplane or other types of multiplane (aeronautics), multiplanes, which have multiple planes. A monoplane has inherently the highest efficiency and lowest drag of any wing configuration and is the simplest to build. However, during the early years of flight, these advantages were offset by its greater weight and lower manoeuvrability, making it relatively rare until the 1930s.
