Dmitri Ivanovich Vasilyev (russian: Дмитрий Иванович Васильев; 21 October 1900 – 5 January 1984) was a Soviet and Russian film director. He was a laureate of two Stalin Prizes in 1947 and 1951. Yeysk
Yeysk (russian: Ейск) is a port and a resort town in Krasnodar Krai, Russia, situated on the shore of the Taganrog Gulf of the Sea of Azov. The town is built primarily on the Yeysk Spit, which separates the Yeya River from the Sea of Azov. Population: History In the 14th century, in this area was a Genoese colony with a port called Balzimachi (or Bacinaci), which is mentioned in Pratica della mercatura. Tsutsiev's Atlas shows a Yeyskoye at the head of the Yeya bay for 1763-1785 and a Yeysk somewhat south of the present location from 1829-1839. In 1783 it was involved in the Kuban Nogai Uprising. The town was founded in 1848 by Prince Mikhail Semyonovich Vorontsov in accordance with a royal order from the Tsar of Russia. Vsevolod Pudovkin
Vsevolod Illarionovich Pudovkin ( rus, Всеволод Илларионович Пудовкин, p=ˈfsʲevələt ɪlərʲɪˈonəvʲɪtɕ pʊˈdofkʲɪn; 16 February 1893 – 30 June 1953) was a Russian and Soviet film director, screenwriter and actor who developed influential theories of montage. Pudovkin's masterpieces are often contrasted with those of his contemporary Sergei Eisenstein, but whereas Eisenstein utilized montage to glorify the power of the masses, Pudovkin preferred to concentrate on the courage and resilience of individuals. He was granted the title of People's Artist of the USSR in 1948. Biography Vsevolod Pudovkin was born in Penza into a Russian family, the third of six children. Giuseppe De Santis (11 February 1917 – 16 May 1997) was an Italian film director. One of the most idealistic neorealist filmmakers of the 1940s and 1950s, he wrote and directed films punctuated by ardent cries for social reform. He was the brother of Italian cinematographer Pasqualino De Santis. His wife was Gordana Miletic (native spelling: Miletić), a Yugoslav actress and former ballet dancer. Biography De Santis was born in Fondi, Lazio. He was a member of the Italian Communist Party (PCI) and fought with the anti-German Resistance in Rome during World War II. He was first a student of philosophy and literature before entering Rome's Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia. ''Over Tissa'' (russian: Над Тиссой, Nad Tissoy) is a 1958 Soviet thriller film directed by Dmitri Vasilyev and based on the eponymous book by Alexander Avdeenko. The picture was the box-office leader of the year 1958 in the USSR, it was seen by 45 million viewers. Plot The film takes place in the year 1952. A young demobilized sergeant from Berlin is en route, war hero Ivan Belogray. Fellow traveler, head of the timber rafting bureau Dzyuba finds out from Belogray that his parents died in the war and that after the war he corresponded with a girl from Transcarpathia, Theresa Simak, and decided to demobilize and go to this girl to later marry her. ''Admiral Nakhimov'' (russian: Адмирал Нахимов) is a 1947 Soviet biopic film directed by Vsevolod Pudovkin, based on the life of Russian Admiral Pavel Nakhimov (1802-1855). In 1946 Pudovkin, Golovnya, Lukovsky, Kryukov, Dikiy, Simonov, and Knyazev received the Stalin Prize. Production The movie had to be remade after the Communist Party of the Soviet Union viewed it as having historical inaccuracies and too many "parties and dancing." Therefore, they recruited Vsevolod Pudovkin to recreate the film, where he removed the love story, "toned down" the dance scenes, and made other changes.
