Dmitri Ivanovich Sokolov
Dmitri Ivanovich Sokolov (russian: Соколов Дмитрий Иванович 1788 – 19 November 1852) was a Russian geologist and specialist on mining who was a teacher at the Saint Petersburg Mining University, St. Petersburg mining institute and a professor at Saint Petersburg State University, St Petersburg University. He wrote some of the first Russian textbooks on mineralogy and geology, founded the first geology periodical in Russian and organized the geological museum of the university. Sokolov was born in St. Petersburg where his father was a locksmith and inventor. After the death of his father, he went, as an eight year old, to the mining school in St. Petersburg. He graduated in 1805 and in 1809 he received a master's degree. He then taught mineralogy, geognosy and assaying. From 1822 he was also a professor at St Petersburg University. Saint Petersburg Mining University (russian: Санкт-Петербургский горный университет), is Russia's oldest technical university, and one of the oldest technical colleges in Europe. It was founded on October 21, 1773, by Empress Catherine the Great, who realised an idea proposed by Peter the Great and Mikhail Lomonosov for training engineers for the mining and metals industries. Saint Petersburg State University (SPBU; russian: Санкт-Петербургский государственный университет) is a public research university in Saint Petersburg, Russia. Founded in 1724 by a decree of Peter the Great, the university from the beginning has had a focus on fundamental research in science, engineering and humanities. Jöns Jacob Berzelius
Baron Jöns Jacob Berzelius (; by himself and his contemporaries named only Jacob Berzelius, 20 August 1779 – 7 August 1848) was a Swedish chemist. Berzelius is considered, along with Robert Boyle, John Dalton, and Antoine Lavoisier, to be one of the founders of modern chemistry. Berzelius became a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences in 1808 and served from 1818 as its principal functionary. He is known in Sweden as the "Father of Swedish Chemistry". Nikolay Koksharov
Nikolai Ivanovich Koksharov (russian: Николай Иванович Кокшаров, links=no) (23 November (5 December), 1818 – 21 December (2 January), 1893) was a Russian mineralogist, crystallographer, and major general in the Russian army. He was noted for his measurements of crystals using a goniometer. Life Nikolai Koksharov was born in Ust-Kamenogorsk (today's Kazakhstan). He was educated at the military school of mines in St. Petersburg. At the age of twenty-two he was selected to accompany Roderick Murchison and Édouard de Verneuil, and afterwards Dr. Keyserling, in their geological survey of the Russian Empire.
