Dizziness (film)
''Dizziness'' () is a 1946 Mexican drama film directed by Antonio Momplet, starring María Félix, Emilio Tuero and Lilia Michel. It tells the story of a love triangle where a young widowed mother finds herself attracted to her daughter's fiancé. The film is based on the 1926 novel ''Alberte'' by Pierre Benoit. Plot Mercedes Mallea (María Félix) is a woman who married when she was almost a child, and became widowed while she was still young and attractive. Despite her youth, Mercedes decides to spend a lonely life on her ranch, while her daughter Gabriela (Lilia Michel) leaves to study abroad. Years later, Gabriela returns home to introduce her mother to Arturo (Emilio Tuero), her future husband. Conflict breaks out when a deep and dangerous attraction begins to emerge between Mercedes and Arturo. Antonio Momplet
Antonio Momplet (1899 – 10 August 1974) was a Spanish film director and screenwriter. He worked in Spain, France, Argentina and Mexico. Life and career Antonio Momplet was born in Cádiz, Andalusia. He worked as a journalist and translator of foreign films in Barcelona until 1927, when he moved to Paris and began to work for Gaumont. In the mid 1930s he moved back to Spain where he directed four feature films and founded the film journal ''Cine Art'', which quickly became influential. To avoid the Spanish Civil War, he moved to Argentina in 1937, and made eight feature films the following years. In 1943 he moved to Mexico to join the film industry there, and made a number of Mexican films both as director and writer for others, before he moved back to Buenos Aires in 1946. In 1952 he returned to Spain. During his final Spanish period he made films such as the Spaghetti Western parody ''Due contro tutti'', before he retired in 1964. Eduardo Arozamena
Eduardo Arozamena Lira (13 October 1875 – 21 May 1951) was a Mexican actor. His nickname was "El Nanche Arozamena". Son of Juan Arozamena and Guadalupe Lira y Argomanes. Initially a singer (baritone), theater actor, he later ventured into film, where he was also a director and screenwriter. He worked in Mexico as well as in the United States, where he participated in the famous 1931 ''Dracula'' Spanish-language film, directed by George Melford. He also entered literature as a storyteller, with his works being published in the weekly "Mefistófeles". He later authored the weekly column ''Parece que fue ayer'' ("It seems like yesterday"), published in the newspaper ''El Universal Ilustrado''. The Ariel Award ( es, Premio Ariel) is an award that recognizes the best of Mexican cinema. Given annually, since 1946, by the Mexican Academy of Cinematographic Arts and Sciences (AMACC), the award recognizes artistical and technical excellence in the Mexican film industry.
