Census Division No. 20 (Swan River) is a census division located within the Parkland Region of the province of Manitoba. Unlike in some other provinces, census divisions do not reflect the organization of local government in Manitoba. These areas exist solely for the purposes of statistical analysis and presentation; they have no government of their own. The population of the division in the 2006 census was 10,405. The economic bases of the region is mixed grain, livestock and forestry. It also includes all of Duck Mountain Provincial Park. Bowsman, Manitoba
Bowsman is an unincorporated urban community in the Municipality of Minitonas – Bowsman, Manitoba, Canada. The community is 16 kilometres north of the Town of Swan River. Bowsman was originally incorporated as a village in 1949, but lost that status upon its amalgamation with the Rural Municipality of Minitonas on 1 January 2015. The economy is supported by agriculture and logging. Currently the community offers a hotel with restaurant, lounge, and bar, K–8 school, hockey arena, curling rink, library, post office. Wuskwi Sipihk First Nation
Wuskwi Sipihk First Nation ( Cree ᐘᐢᑿᐩ ᓰᐲᕽ waskway-sîpîhk, ''meaning: at the Birch River'') is a Swampy Cree First Nations band government whose reserve community is located northeast Birch River, Manitoba, along the western shores of Swan Lake. The Rural Municipality of Mountain (North) forms the western and southern borders of the reserve. As of April, 2011, the First Nation had a total registered population of 623 people, of which 197 people lived on their own Indian reserve. The current Chief for the First Nation is Elwood Zastre. The Municipality of Minitonas – Bowsman is a rural municipality (RM) in the Parkland Region of Manitoba, Canada. More precisely, it is located in the Swan Valley area. History The RM was incorporated on January 1, 2015 via the amalgamation of the RM of Minitonas, the Town of Minitonas and the Village of Bowsman. It was formed as a requirement of '' The Municipal Amalgamations Act'', which required that municipalities with a population less than 1,000 amalgamate with one or more neighbouring municipalities by 2015. Minitonas, Manitoba
Minitonas is an unincorporated urban community in the Municipality of Minitonas – Bowsman, Manitoba, Canada. It is surrounded by the Swan Valley and is located 15 km east of the Town of Swan River. The community is close to the Duck Mountain Provincial Park. Founded in 1898, it was categorized as a town from 1996 until 1 January 2015, when it was amalgamated with the Rural Municipality of Minitonas and Village of Bowsman. According to the 2011 census, Minitonas had a population of 522. History The Cowan Trail was blazed from Dauphin to Minitonas in 1897, and still exists today. Benito is an unincorporated urban community in the Municipality of Swan Valley West, Manitoba, Canada. Prior to 1 January 2015, Benito was designated as a village. The community is situated in the Swan River Valley, southwest of Swan River, northwest of Winnipeg, and east of the Saskatchewan border. To the south is Duck Mountain Provincial Park and Forest, to the north is Thunder Hill and further north of Swan River is Porcupine Mountain Provincial Park. Swan River, Manitoba
Swan River is a town in Manitoba, Canada. It is surrounded by the Municipality of Swan Valley West in the Swan River Valley region. According to the 2021 Canadian Census, Swan River had a population of 4,049, making it Manitoba's 18th largest in population. History Located in a valley between the Duck Mountains and the Porcupine Hills, the town of Swan River is close to the Saskatchewan boundary in west-central Manitoba.
