Diving At The 2000 Summer Olympics – Women's 10 Metre Platform
The women's 10 metre platform was one of eight diving events included in the Diving at the 2000 Summer Olympics programme. The competition was split into three phases: ;''Preliminary round'': 22 September — Each diver performed five dives out of a group consisting of a front dive, a back dive, a reverse dive, an inward dive, a twisting dive and an armstand dive. There were no limitations in degree of difficulty. The 18 divers with the highest total score advanced to the semi-final. ;''Semi-final'': 24 September — Each diver performed four dives out of a group consisting of a front dive, a back dive, a reverse dive, an inward dive, a twisting dive and an armstand dive, all limited in difficulty degree. Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre
The Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre (SOPAC) , formerly Sydney International Aquatic Centre (SIAC), is a swimming venue located in the Sydney Olympic Park in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. Built in 1994, the SOPAC was a major venue for the 2000 Summer Olympics as it hosted the swimming, diving, synchronized swimming, the medal events for water polo, and the swimming portion of the modern pentathlon competitions. The SOPAC has since been a host venue for numerous schools and swimming associations around New South Wales. Currently, it has most notably been the venue for the annual CAS Swimming Championships. Leong Mun Yee
Datuk Leong Mun Yee (, born 4 December 1984) is a retired Malaysian diver. She competed at the 2000, 2004, 2008 and 2012 Olympics with the best result of seventh place in the 10 m synchronised platform event in 2012. Her appearance at the 2008 Summer Olympics made her the first Malaysian diver to compete at three Olympics. The bronze medal that she and Pandelela Rinong won at the 2009 World Championships was the first World Championship medal for Malaysia. Career Diving career She was originally a swimmer but switched to diving at the age of 10 as part of Malaysia's programme to prepare a diving team for the 1998 Commonwealth Games. Degree of difficulty (DD, sometimes called tariff or grade) is a concept used in several sports and other competitions to indicate the technical difficulty of a skill, performance, or course, often as a factor in scoring. Laura Wilkinson
Laura Ann Wilkinson (born November 17, 1977, in Houston, Texas) is an American diver, 3 time Olympian, and Olympic gold medalist. She is the first woman to win the three major diving world titles. Wilkinson retired in 2008. After nine years of retirement, she returned to competition in 2017 and placed 2nd at Nationals. She trained for her fourth Olympic Games (2021) at Texas A&M University's swimming and diving facilities but did not qualify. Background Wilkinson was born and raised in Houston, Texas and lived with her parents, Ed and Linda Wilkinson. She attended Klein High School in Houston before going to University of Texas. Diving is the sport of jumping or falling into water from a platform or springboard, usually while performing acrobatics.
