The women's 3 metre springboard, also reported as ''springboard diving'', was one of four diving events on the Diving at the 1988 Summer Olympics programme. The competition was split into two phases: #''Preliminary round'' (24 September) #:Divers performed ten dives. The twelve divers with the highest scores advanced to the final. #''Final'' (25 September) #:Divers performed another set of ten dives and the score here obtained determined the final ranking. Gao Min (diver)
Gao Min (; born September 28, 1970, in Zigong, Sichuan) is a female Chinese diver who won gold medals in the springboard event of the 1988 and 1992 Olympic Games. Diving career Gao learned how to swim at the age of four. At nine, she started gymnastics training, before she was spotted by a diving coach and persuaded to switch to compete in diving. She won her first major international competition - on the 3-meter springboard - in the World Championships in 1986. Nicknamed the "Diving Queen", Gao is one of the most dominant divers in the history of the sport. Undefeated in world competition on the 3-meter springboard between 1986 and 1992 (including Olympic Games gold medals both in 1988 in Seoul and 1992 in Barcelona). She is tied with the legendary Greg Louganis in winning the greatest number of international awards on one board. Li Qing (; born December 1, 1972) is a female Chinese diver. She competed at 1988 Seoul Olympic Games, and won a silver medal in the women's 3 m springboard. Li is married to Tan Liangde Tan Liangde (; born July 14, 1965, in Maoming, Guangdong) is a famous diver from PR China. He won silver medals in three consecutive Olympic Games from 1984 to 1992. Kelly McCormick
Kelly Anne McCormick (born February 13, 1960 in Anaheim, California) is a retired female diver from the United States. She twice competed for her native country at the Summer Olympics, winning a silver (1984) and a bronze medal (1988) in the Women's 3m Springboard event. Kelly is the daughter of the famous diving champion Pat McCormick and diving coach Glenn McCormick. Growing up in Rossmoor, CA in the 1960s and 1970s Kelly’s first sport was gymnastics, and by the age of 13 she was an elite gymnast on the same team with Olympian Cathy Rigby. Kelly attended Los Alamitos High School where she began “playing around” with diving and then attended the Ohio State University to be coached by Vince Panzanno. By 1981 she had made the national team, and over the next ten years became a major figure of international status. Diving is the sport of jumping or falling into water from a platform or springboard, usually while performing acrobatics.
