Helen Meany
Helen Meany (later ''Gravis'', December 15, 1904 – July 21, 1991) was an American diver who competed at the 1920, 1924 and 1928 Summer Olympics. In 1920 she was eliminated in the first round of the 10 m platform competition. Four years later she finished fifth in the 10 m platform. In 1928 she won the gold medal in the 3 m springboard. Meany was the first American female diver to compete at three Olympics. Domestically she won 17 AAU titles in 1920–1928, before appearing in paid exhibitions that disqualified her as an amateur. In September 1930 she married Harry Balfe. Elizabeth Becker-Pinkston
Elizabeth Anna Becker-Pinkston (, later ''Campbell''; March 6, 1903 – April 6, 1989) was an American diver who competed in the 1924 Summer Olympics and in the 1928 Summer Olympics. She was born in Philadelphia and died in Detroit, Michigan. In 1916, when she was 13 years old, she was recognized as a promising future swimming champion. In 1924 she won the gold medal in the 3 metre springboard event as well as the silver medal in the 10 metre platform competition. Georgia V. Coleman (January 23, 1912 – September 14, 1940) was an American diver. She competed in the 3 m springboard and 10 m platform at the 1928 and 1932 Olympics and won one gold, one bronze and two silver medals. Domestically she collected 11 AAU titles. Dorothy Poynton-Hill
Dorothy Poynton-Hill (née ''Poynton'', later ''Teuber''; July 17, 1915 – May 18, 1995) was an American diving (sport), diver who competed at the 1928 Summer Olympics, 1928, 1932 Summer Olympics, 1932 and 1936 Summer Olympics. She won the 10 m platform event in 1932 and 1936, while in the 3 m springboard she took a silver in 1928 and a bronze in 1936. In 1928, at age 13 she became the youngest Olympian to win a medal and, in 1936, the first Olympic diver to win the 10 m platform twice. After retiring from competitions, Poynton-Hill ran an aquatic club in Los Angeles and appeared in several TV commercials. In 1968, she was inducted into the International Swimming Hall of Fame. Farid Simaika
Farid Simaika ( ar, فريد سميكة 12 June 1907 – 11 September 1943) was an Olympic diver who competed for Egypt. Early life Simaika was born on 12 June 1907 in Alexandria to one of the oldest Coptic families which can trace their ancestry to the middle of the 17th Century. The Simaikas were mostly magistrates and notables who prospered in the service of State and Church. His father, Bassili Bey Simaika, was director of Alexandria customs. Before moving to the United States in the 1920s, Simaika was already a well-known Egyptian diving champion. He also held an Egyptian pilot's license. Michael Galitzen
Michael Riley Galitzen, also known as Mickey Riley (September 6, 1909, Los Angeles, California – June 6, 1959, Hollywood, California) was an American diver who won four total medals, one gold, at the 1928 Summer Olympics and 1932 Summer Olympics. Galitzen won acclaim both for his individual diving and as a tandem diver with his brother John. He won two medals in diving at Amsterdam in 1928 as Michael Galitzen. In 1931 his coach suggested that the brothers use Americanized stage names — "Mickey Riley" and "Johnny Riley". He won gold and silver medals in Los Angeles in 1932 under that name. After the Olympics, he worked as a film editor, and he and John appeared frequently in diving shows. He was found dead in his Hollywood apartment in 1959; the death was attributed to natural causes. Pete Desjardins
Ulise Joseph "Pete" Desjardins (April 12, 1907 – May 6, 1985) was an American diver who competed in the 1924 and 1928 Summer Olympics. Born in St-Pierre-Jolys, Manitoba, Canada, Desjardins grew up in Florida. In 1924 he won the silver medal in the 3 m springboard competition and finished sixth in the plain high diving event. Four years later, he won gold medals in the 3 meter springboard and 10 meter platform. At the 1928 Games Desjardins had the maximum score for two of his springboard dives, but his platform gold medal was unexpected. Farid Simaika from Egypt initially won the competition, and the Egyptian anthem was already being played at the award ceremony, when the judges reconsidered their scoring and placed Desjardins first. Desjardins studied economics at Stanford University and is a member of the Stanford Athletic Hall of Fame, though he never won a collegiate championship.
