DiversityUNNC
DiversityUNNC is a student society formed at The University of Nottingham Ningbo China in December 2014, and recognized officially in January 2015. It is formed by LGBTQIA students and alumni, as well as allies. It "aims at creating a diverse and respectful campus environment, free from discrimination and inclusive of all students, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity"One of the main particularities of this society is the challenging context in which it is inserted: a hybrid space that characterizes a Sino-British University. Diversity's main activities are workshops and lectures, film and movie screening nights, weekly "Safe Space" support group meetings, and research and consulting. History In November 2014, realizing that The University of Nottingham Ningbo China (UNNC) was probably the only UK University that did not have a society focused on LGBTQIA issues, students and alumni decided to create one. The founders of Diversity are from a broad spectrum of diffe ...

Homosexuality In China
Homosexuality has been documented in China since ancient times. According to one study by Bret Hinsch, for some time after the fall of the Han Dynasty, homosexuality was widely accepted in China but this has been disputed. Several early Chinese emperors are speculated to have had homosexual relationships accompanied by heterosexual ones. Opposition to homosexuality, according to the study by Hinsch, did not become firmly established in China until the 19th and 20th centuries through the Westernization efforts of the late Qing Dynasty and early Republic of China. On the other hand, Gulik's study argued that the Mongol Yuan dynasty introduced a more ascetic attitude to sexuality in general. For most of the 20th century homosexuality in China had been legal, except for a period between 1979 and 1997 where male anal sex was punishable as “hooliganism”. In a survey by the organization WorkForLGBT of 18,650 lesbians, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people, 3% of males and ...

LGBT Rights In China
Lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people in the People's Republic of China face legal and social challenges that are not experienced by non-LGBT residents. Same-sex couples are unable to marry or adopt, and households headed by such couples are ineligible for the same legal protections available to heterosexual couples. China provides no anti-discrimination protections for LGBT people, nor does it prohibit hate crimes based on sexual orientation or gender identity. Homosexuality and homoeroticism in China have been documented since ancient times. According to certain studies by Dr. Bret Hinsch, now associated with Fo Guang University in Taiwan, reviewed in a journal published by the University of London,Passions of the Cut Sleeve: The Male Homosexual Tradition in China by Bret Hinsch; Review by: Frank Dikötter. Bulletin of the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London, Vol. 55, No. 1(1992), Cambridge University Press, p. 170 homosexuality was re ...
