Ditcham Park
Ditcham Park School is a co-educational, independent school in the civil parish of Buriton, near Petersfield, in the England, English county of Hampshire. Location The school and its grounds are on the southern spur of Oakham Hill (202 m), one of the highest points on the South Downs. It is located some 2 kilometres south-southwest of the village of Buriton and 2 kilometres northeast of the hamlet of Chalton, Hampshire, Chalton. The premises was previously owned by Douai School (closed in 1999) and housed its Junior School until 1975. Facilities The school grounds include a walled garden, tennis courts and sports fields, which adjoin several farms and forests; the main section of the school is a Victorian era, Victorian manor house, built in 1887. Clive Myrie (born 25 August 1964) is a British journalist, newsreader and presenter who works for the BBC. Since August 2021 he has been the host of the long-running BBC quiz shows ''Mastermind'' and '' Celebrity Mastermind''. Early life Myrie was born on 25 August 1964 in Bolton, Lancashire, England, to Jamaican immigrant parents, who came to the United Kingdom in the 1960s. His uncle Cecil was a munitions driver in the Royal Air Force during the war. His mother was a seamstress who worked for Mary Quant, while his father Norris was a factory worker who made car batteries and carpets. Churcher's College is an independent, fee-charging day school for girls and boys, founded in 1722. The Senior School (ages 11–18) is in the market town of Petersfield, Hampshire with the Junior School and Nursery (ages 2 years, 9 months–11) in nearby Liphook. Woodcroft Halt
Woodcroft Halt railway station was a former railway halt located in the parish of Buriton between Rowlands Castle and Petersfield on the Portsmouth Direct Line. History During World War II, in 1940, the Admiralty requisitioned Ditcham Park, a nearby country house for use as a convalescent home for sailors (the house is now a private school). The halt was built to serve Ditcham Park, principally for trains from the extensive naval facilities in Portsmouth about away. ''Woodcroft Halt'', which was also known as ''Ditcham Park Halt'', opened on 4 October 1943, and closed on 1 October 1945. Because of its naval nature, it was featured on few maps, but some maps did mark it by a little tab without a name. It was closed in 1945 and subsequently demolished; just a footbridge remains. Ditcham is a hamlet in the East Hampshire district of Hampshire, England. The hamlet lies on the Hampshire-West Sussex border. Its nearest town is Petersfield, which lies approximately 3.5 miles (5.9 km) north from the hamlet. Ditcham is in the Buriton and East Meon ward of East Hampshire Council and the Petersfield Butser division of Hampshire County Council. History At the time of the Domesday Book, Ditcham was part of the manor of Mapledurham. At the Reformation, Henry VIII passed the Ditcham estate to Sir William Fitzwilliam, and it later passed to the Cowper and Coles families. The Coles family built the country house Ditcham Park, which was burned down in 1888 and was subsequently rebuilt by Reginald Blomfield for Lawrence Cave.
