District Of Columbia State Athletic Association
The District of Columbia State Athletic Association (DCSAA), is the association that oversees post-season high school sporting contests in Washington, D.C. DCSAA is made up of public schools from the DCIAA, DC private schools from various conferences such as the WCAC and the MAC, and DC charter schools. Since the athletic talent in DC is spread out amongst various different leagues, the DCSAA aims to provide a medium for which the best schools, regardless of type, can compete under unified rules. That way, there can be a true city champion, rather than a public school champion and private school champions. The DCSAA sponsors championships in football, basketball, soccer, cross country, cheerleading, baseball, indoor track, outdoor track, softball, golf, lacrosse, tennis, wrestling, swimming, chess, ultimate frisbee and volleyball. Softball
Softball is a game similar to baseball played with a larger ball on a smaller field. Softball is played competitively at club levels, the college level, and the professional level. The game was first created in 1887 in Chicago by George Hancock. There are two rule sets for softball generally: ''slow pitch softball'' and ''fastpitch''. Slow pitch softball is commonly played recreationally, while women's fastpitch softball is a Summer Olympic sport and is played professionally. Paul Public Charter School is a charter school in northwest Washington, D.C., serving students from sixth to twelfth grade. History Paul is named for Edward A. Paul, the first principal of Washington High School from 1877 to 1888. Paul was born in Haverhill in 1855 and graduated from high school in Lawrence before graduating from Dartmouth College in 1876. He moved immediately to Washington, D.C., to become a schoolteacher and, after a year, took over the Advanced Grammar School for Boys in Columbia Heights as its only teacher and principal. The Knowledge is Power Program, commonly known as KIPP, is a network of free open-enrollment college-preparatory schools in low income communities throughout the United States.
