District 4, Ho Chi Minh City
District 4 ( vi, Quận 4) is the smallest urban district (''quận'') of Ho Chi Minh City, the largest city in Vietnam. The Saigon Port is located here. As of 2010, the district had a population of 183,261 and a total area of 4 km². A number of large apartment buildings have been built over the past decade in District 4 including Rivergate Residence, Millenium, Galaxy 9, and Icon 56. Geographical location District 4 is a triangular cay, surrounded by rivers and canals. Direct-controlled Municipality
A direct-controlled municipality is the highest level classification for cities used by unitary states, with status equal to that of the provinces in the respective countries. A direct-controlled municipality is similar to, but not the same as, a federal district, a common designation in various countries for a municipality that is not part of any state, and which usually hosts some governmental functions. Usually direct-controlled municipality are under central government control with limited power. Many countries have adopted this system with some different variations. Geographically and culturally, many of the municipalities are enclaves in the middle of provinces. Some occur in strategic positions in between provinces. The Vietnamese people ( vi, người Việt, lit=Viet people) or Kinh people ( vi, người Kinh) are a Southeast Asian ethnic group native to modern-day Northern Vietnam and Southern China (Jing Islands, Dongxing, Guangxi). The native language is Vietnamese, the most widely spoken Austroasiatic language. Saigon Port is a network of ports in Ho Chi Minh City. The port name is derived from the former name of the city. By 2013, it has become the 24th busiest container port in the world. History Saigon Port played an important role in the foundation and development of the city of Saigon. Saigon River
The Saigon River ( vi, Sông Sài Gòn) is a river located in southern Vietnam that rises near Phum Daung in southeastern Cambodia, flows south and south-southeast for about and empties into the Soài Rạp, which in its turn empties into the South China Sea some northeast of the Mekong Delta. The Saigon River is joined northeast of Ho Chi Minh City (formerly named Saigon) by the Đồng Nai river, and just above Ho Chi Minh City it is joined by the Bến Cát River. Thủ Đức is a municipal city (sub-city) under the administration of Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. The city was founded by the Standing Committee of the National Assembly on December 9, 2020 from the districts of 2, 9, and Thủ Đức District. Thu Duc City covers 211.56 km², the population as of 2019 was 1,013,795 inhabitants. With the establishment of Thu Duc City, the main city will contribute more to the national economic growth and boost the development in Southern Key Economic Zone (SKEZ).
