Distant Shores (British TV Series)
''Distant Shores'' is a comedy-drama first shown in the United Kingdom on ITV in January 2005. Like the similar fish out of water dramedies, ''Northern Exposure'' and ''Doc Martin'', it focuses on the difficulties of an unwillingly-transplanted metropolitan doctor who is forced to adjust to a rural environment. Concept Peter Davison plays a successful London plastic surgeon Bill Shore. In a bid to save their marriage, his wife Lisa, played by Samantha Bond, accepts a six-month veterinary research job on a small Northumbrian island called Hildasay. Bill reluctantly agrees to relocate on the island with his wife, daughter and son. The stories revolve around the various ways in which the family adjust to the island and its welcoming, but sometimes peculiar, inhabitants. The dominant themes of series 1 are Bill's attempts to leave the island, and the tragedy which befalls Lisa as she gradually pursues an adulterous relationship with one of its inhabitants. ''Distant Shores'' is the fifth studio album by the English duo Chad & Jeremy. It was released on 15 August 1966. ''Distant Shores'' was recorded between November 1965 and March 1966. This is the first album in which the duo were given time to craft their sound and style. This album is a precursor to their psychedelic album, '' Of Cabbages and Kings''. It includes the first recording of Paul Simon's " Homeward Bound", predating even Simon & Garfunkel's record. The title track was composed by the duo's young bassist, James William Guercio, who went on to his own significant career in the music industry. "Distant Shores" was released as a single in the U.S. and rose to No. 30 in the ''Billboard'' Hot 100 in August 1966. A second single, "You Are She", topped out at No. 87. Karan Casey
Karan Casey (born 1969) is an Irish folk singer, and a former member of the Irish band Solas. She resides in Cork, Ireland. Early years Casey was born in Ballyduff Lower, Kilmeaden, County Waterford, Ireland. Her family encouraged her to sing in the house, in a church choir and at school. At Waterford Regional Technical College she studied piano then took music at University College Dublin in 1987. Having learned to copy Ella Fitzgerald's scat singing, she performed in a Dublin bistro several nights per week while still a student. At the Royal Irish Academy of Music she studied classical music and sang in a jazz band, then a folk-ballad band, then another jazz band. She also fell under the influence of Dublin folk singer Frank Harte. During this time she also formed her own band, called "Dorothy". ''Distant Shore'' is the second solo album by Irish singer Órla Fallon. It was released in September 2009 under label Spring Hill Music Group. It was also released in 2010 under the label Green Hill Music on 20 April 2010. The album was produced by Dan Shea and Eoghan O'Neill. It was recorded at Windmill Lane Studios in Dublin, Ireland and at Dark Horse Studios in Nashville, Tennessee. The album "mixes traditional, contemporary, and original compositions."
