Distant Horizons
''Distant Horizons'' is the twenty-first studio album by the English space rock group Hawkwind, released in 1997. Towards the end of 1996, Jerry Richards, who had been contributing lead guitar to some live dates and recording sessions, joined the group permanently. Dissatisfied with the musical direction of the group, longstanding bassist Alan Davey chose to leave at the end of 1996. His bass playing duties were picked up by singer Ron Tree. Rastafarian toaster Captain Rizz and keyboardist Julian "Crum" Crimmins began contributing to live dates, although neither would appear on this record. The album's release was preceded by the ''Love in Space'' EP, although the lead track differs remarkably from the album version, having vocals and being produced by Zeus B. Held. The group undertook a 32 date UK tour from September through to November to promote the album, followed by three Netherlands/Belgium dates. Ron Tree
Ronald 'Ron' Tree (born 8 April 1963 in Leeds, England) is an English musician and songwriter, best known as frontman and bassist for the English space rock band Hawkwind from 1995 to 2002. He also played both these roles in the reunited Steve Took's Horns in 2002, taking the place of Steve Peregrin Took. He later became the vocalist/songwriter in the Hawklords, alongside Jerry Richards, Harvey Bainbridge, Dave Pearce and Tom Ashurst. History Prior to joining Hawkwind, Tree played with 2000DS, Plato's Jacuzzi, Captain Jesus and the Sunray Dream (who released two limited-edition "private press" LPs), and his own band, Bastard. Cherry Red Records
Cherry Red Records is a British independent record label founded in Malvern, Worcestershire by Iain McNay in 1978. The label has released recordings by Dead Kennedys, Everything But the Girl, The Monochrome Set, and Felt, among others, as well as the compilation album ''Pillows & Prayers''. In addition to releasing new music, Cherry Red also acts as an umbrella for individual imprints and catalogue specialists. Cherry Red was listed by ''Music Week'' as one of the UK's top ten record companies in Q1 2015 for sales of artist albums. Bass Guitar
The bass guitar, electric bass or simply bass (), is the lowest-pitched member of the string family. It is a plucked string instrument similar in appearance and construction to an electric or an acoustic guitar, but with a longer neck and scale length, and typically four to six strings or courses. David Anthony Brock (born 20 August 1941) is an English musician. He plays electric guitar, keyboards, bass and oscillators. Punkcast.com was an online video site that covered the NYC underground music scene. The site, though not active, remains with an archive of videos from 1997 to 2011. Newer videos are now on the Punkcast YouTube channel. History Background Punkcast's founder Joly MacFie was born in England and during the punk scene in the late 70s and early 80s sold badges and pins through his company Better Badges, before in 1983 selling the business to his staff and moving to New York. Early years Punkcast was started in September 1997 to cover the visit to NYC of punk band One Way System, in order to demonstrate the internet's broadcast potential to the band's manager John Bentham who had run Jettisoundz, a major creator/distributor of punk video in the UK. ''Hawkwind in Your Area'' is the twenty-second live/studio album by the English space rock group Hawkwind. The live side was recorded during the group's 1997 tour to promote the ''Distant Horizons'' album. The studio tracks were recorded during 1998. The group had ceased business dealings with former manager Douglas Smith who had been running the record label Emergency Broadcast System Records, and as a consequence found themselves without an outlet in Europe for their recordings. They had, however, a long-standing deal with Griffin Music in North America for licensing the EBS material, so this album received a North American release in January 1999, but no European equivalent. Later, in 2000, as Brock started to make archive material available for release in the UK through Voiceprint Records, it received a belated UK release. Captain Rizzis a musician and community organiser in London, where he volunteered at the T. Chances community centre in Tottenham. As a vocalist for Hawkwind from 1997 to 2000, he was described as a "Space Reggae toaster". He ran for Parliament several times, associated with Make Politicians History, on the Rizz Party ticket.
