Sarge (band)
Sarge was an indie rock band from Champaign, Illinois, in the United States. They released three albums on Mud Records. About Sarge was formed in Champaign, Illinois by singer-songwriter, Elizabeth Elmore and bassist, Rachel Switzky. They later recruited a drummer, Chad Romanski. A second guitarist, Pat Cramer, volunteered to work for the band later. The band's first gig was at the Blind Pig in January 1996. The band was considered " punk rock" and called "thoroughly solid" by ''CMJ New Music Monthly''. In 1999, the ''Chicago Tribune'' called the band a "well-honed pop group." The band broke up in 1999 when Elmore returned to law school. Indie Rock
Indie rock is a Music subgenre, subgenre of rock music that originated in the United States, United Kingdom and New Zealand from the 1970s to the 1980s. Originally used to describe independent record labels, the term became associated with the music they produced and was initially used interchangeably with alternative rock or "Pop rock, guitar pop rock". One of the primary scenes of the movement was Dunedin, where Dunedin sound, a cultural scene based around a convergence of noise pop and jangle became popular among the city's University of Otago, large student population. Parasol Records is an American independent record label based in Urbana, Illinois. The label was founded by Geoff Merritt as an outgrowth of the catalog Parasol Mail Order (which was started in 1991). The Glass Intact
''The Glass Intact'' is the second album by the Champaign, Illinois band Sarge. It was released in 1998 on Mud Records. The album was somewhat of a breakout hit, getting a feature-length review at Salon.com and the ''Village Voice'', and causing the band to become a 1998 "Hot Band" in ''Rolling Stone'' as well as being one of ''Spin Magazines "98 for '98." Reception Jason Ankeny of AllMusic declared the album to be "a kind of apotheosis of '90s-era girl-punk", finding the album combined the "emotional intensity of Sleater-Kinney, the melodic aggression of Team Dresch, and the sheer exuberance of Cub, yet their best trick of all is that they sound like an absolute original." Elizabeth Elmore
Elizabeth Elmore (born April 30, 1976) is an American singer-songwriter and lawyer who has worked with the rock bands The Reputation and Sarge. Career and education Elmore formed Sarge in the Chicago area in 1996, and the band broke up in 1999. The ''Chicago Tribune'' wrote that Elmore "was in total command" of performing with Sarge. The ''Tallahassee Democrat'' wrote that her song-writing helped keep Sarge "a cut above the usual indie offerings." Elmore had a short solo stint, during which she recorded a self-titled split EP with Bob Nanna of Braid featuring her song "You Blink." In 2001, Elmore would form The Reputation, a band she played with until 2006. In 2002, The Reputation released a self-titled album. Elmore is also a lawyer, having received a J.D. degree from Northwestern University. She enrolled in law school around 1999, which is one of the reasons Sarge disbanded.
