Distance (band)
Distance was a late-1980s rock/funk band led by bassist/producer Bernard Edwards, patterned after the Power Station. The band was composed of former Chic and Power Station members Edwards (bass) and Tony Thompson (drums) with future Bad Company member Robert Hart on lead vocals, and noted session musicians Eddie Martinez on guitar and Jeff Bova on keyboards. This " supergroup" released only one album, 1989's ''Under the One Sky'' on Reprise Records. The album failed to make the chart and produced no hits. Richard Drummie, one half of Go West, has a co-writing credit on the track "Everytime I Stand Up." Distance appeared as the club band in the 1987 Whoopi Goldberg movie, ''Burglar''. Bernard Edwards
Bernard Edwards (October 31, 1952 – April 18, 1996) was an American bass player and record producer, known primarily for his work in disco music with guitarist Nile Rodgers, with whom he co-founded Chic. In 2017, Edwards was selected as the 53rd greatest bassist of all time by ''Bass Player'' magazine. Biography Edwards was born in Greenville, North Carolina and grew up in Brooklyn, New York City, where he met Nile Rodgers in the early 1970s. At the time, Edwards was working at a post office with the mother of Rodgers' girlfriend. The two formed the Big Apple Band (active 1972–1976) and then united with drummer Tony Thompson to eventually form Chic together with singer Norma Jean Wright. Chic ( ), currently called Nile Rodgers & Chic, is an American band that was formed in 1972 by guitarist Nile Rodgers and bassist Bernard Edwards. It recorded many commercially successful disco songs, including " Dance, Dance, Dance (Yowsah, Yowsah, Yowsah)" (1977), " Everybody Dance" (1977), " Le Freak" (1978), " I Want Your Love" (1978), "Good Times" (1979), and " My Forbidden Lover" (1979). Tony Thompson (drummer)
Anthony Terrence Thompson (November 15, 1954 – November 12, 2003) was an American session drummer best known as the drummer of the Power Station and a member of Chic. Early life and education Thompson was raised in the middle-class community of Springfield Gardens, in Queens, New York City. His mother was Trinidadian and father was of Antiguan descent. Career Chic Thompson first drummed for the group Labelle, and then for a short while was a member of the soul/disco band Ecstasy, Passion & Pain. This was followed by a long tenure with Chic, where he helped create hits such as " Dance, Dance, Dance (Yowsah, Yowsah, Yowsah)," " Le Freak," and "Good Times". Bad Company are an English rock supergroup that was formed in 1973 by singer Paul Rodgers, guitarist Mick Ralphs, drummer Simon Kirke and bassist Boz Burrell. Robert Hart (musician)
Robert Hart (born 1 November 1958, Bournemouth, Hampshire - now Dorset) is an English vocalist and songwriter. He is currently the lead singer of Manfred Mann's Earth Band and the band Diesel. He has performed as a solo artist, and with The Distance and also with former Whitesnake members in the band called Company of Snakes and with Bad Company. He also fronted The Jones Gang, a rock group formed by Hart, Rick Wills and Kenney Jones. He was the first English writer to be signed to Disney owned Hollywood Records. Eddie Martinez (musician)
Eddie Martinez is an American guitarist, born and raised in New York City and of Puerto Rican ancestry, who mainly performs as a session musician. Career Martinez's professional music career began in the 1960s and continues today. He has recorded and toured with dozens of musicians representing numerous styles (including rock, jazz, rap, and R&B), but he is probably best known for work he did in the mid-1980s. Martinez said in a 2015 interview, "In the span of less than a year, I did three records that really put me on the map in terms of a sonic direction. A supergroup is a musical group whose members are successful as solo artists or as members of other successful groups. The term became popular in the late 1960s when members of already successful rock groups recorded albums together, after which they normally disband. Charity supergroups, in which prominent musicians perform or record together in support of a particular cause, have been common since the 1980s. Richard Drummie (born 20 March 1959, in London) is an English guitarist, songwriter and producer. Drummie and Peter Cox are the founding members of musical group Go West. Early career and Go West Drummie began writing with longtime collaborator Peter Cox, with whom he eventually signed a publishing deal. In 1982, the two formed the band Go West, with Cox as lead singer and Drummie on guitar and backing vocals.
