Discovery Bridge (Missouri)
The Discovery Bridge is a pair of truss bridges carrying Missouri Route 370 across the Missouri River between St. Louis County and St. Charles County, in the U.S. state of Missouri. A barrier-separated bicycle and pedestrian path along the northeast side of the bridge opened in 2020. Separate bicycle/pedestrian access ramps are available immediately on both ends of the bridge. This provides a connection to and from the Katy Trail, which passes under the bridge. Before the separated path opened, the shoulder on both sides was designated a bicycle and pedestrian path. The bicycle lane and shoulders were converted into an extra travel lane in each direction in November 2011 due to the rehabilitation of the westbound Blanchette (I-70) Bridge and the bridge was closed for bicycle and pedestrian use. Veterans Memorial Bridge (Missouri)
The Veterans Memorial Bridge are two twin tied arch structures carrying Route 364 across the Missouri River between St. Louis County and St. Charles County, Missouri. Each bridge supports five lanes of traffic, the northern (downstream) bridge westbound, and the southern (upstream) bridge eastbound. On the north (downstream) side of the bridge runs a bike path that connects Creve Coeur Memorial Park to the Katy Trail. Bellefontaine Bridge
The Bellefontaine Bridge is a four-span truss railroad bridge over the Missouri River between St. Charles County, Missouri, and St. Louis County, Missouri. It has four spans. Construction started on July 4, 1892, and the bridge opened on December 27, 1893. The bridge was built by the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad and is now owned and operated by BNSF Railway. New Jersey Steel and Iron Company of Trenton, New Jersey, served as the contractor for the original construction, and George S. Morison designed the structure. Notably, the bridge was one of the first to use a Baltimore truss design; the nearby Merchants Bridge (also designed by Morison) used a Pennsylvania through truss design and had opened just a few years prior. The truss spans are found on masonry piers, which were constructed atop caissons founded into bedrock below the river. __NOTOC__ The Wabash Bridge carries one railroad track across the Mississippi River between Hannibal, Missouri, and Pike County, Illinois. Built by the Wabash Railroad, the bridge is today owned by the Norfolk Southern Railway. On May 3, 1982, the towboat ''Northern King'' lost power in one engine while pushing 12 grain-filled barges in heavy currents. The craft struck a truss span, which collapsed into the river, entangling the tug and several barges and halting river traffic for nine hours. Three barges broke loose and drifted downstream, missing Mark Twain Memorial Bridge. The bridge, then owned by Norfolk and Western Railway, predecessor of the current owner, was repaired. Blanchette Memorial Bridge
The Blanchette Memorial Bridge is a pair of twin cantilever bridges carrying Interstate 70 across the Missouri River between St. Louis County and St. Charles County, Missouri, opened in 1959. At the bridge's crossing, the Missouri River reaches an average depth of about 45 feet. Handling an average of 165,000 vehicle transits per day, it is the area's busiest bridge. Construction of the first interstate highway project under provisions of the Federal Aid Highway Act of 1956 started west of the bridge's present location. Katy Trail State Park
The Katy Trail State Park is a state park in the U.S. state of Missouri that contains the Katy Trail, the country's longest recreational rail trail. Missouri Route 370 (Route 370) is a freeway that connects St. Louis County with St. Charles County via the Discovery Bridge over the Missouri River. The St. Charles County segment of the freeway is signed as the Patrick J. Bray Memorial Highway. Route description Route 370 begins in St. Peters at a Y-interchange at I-70 exit 224 east of Mid Rivers Mall Drive and proceeds northeast.
