Disco (Grace Jones Album)
''Disco'' is a boxed set of three Grace Jones's first three albums, released in 2015. The set contains ''Portfolio'' (1977), '' Fame'' (1978), and ''Muse'' (1979), all of which were recorded at Philadelphia's Sigma Sound with disco pioneer Tom Moulton Thomas Jerome Moulton (, ; born November 29, 1940) is an American record producer. He experimented with remix in disco music and this led to its wide adoption as a standard practice in the industry. He also invented the breakdown section, and the ... as producer, in their entirety. The albums were remastered and each of the three CDs included seven bonus tracks while the vinyl box maintains the original track listings and offers a fourth record, that collects mainly long versions of the 45s from this era. The LP version includes the original 3 LP releases and a 4th LP which includes 8 tracks with selected remixes, b-sides and edited versions. Grace Beverly Jones (born 19 May 1948) is a model, singer and actress. Born in Jamaica, she and her family moved to Syracuse, New York, when she was a teenager. Jones began her modelling career in New York state, then in Paris, working for fashion houses such as Yves St. Laurent and Kenzo, and appearing on the covers of '' Elle'' and ''Vogue''. "Do or Die" is a single by Grace Jones, released in 1978, promoting her album '' Fame''. Background "Do or Die" was the first and in most parts of the world the only single release from Jones' '' Fame'', her second disco album. On ''Fame'' it made up the first part of the A-side non-stop medley "Do or Die"/"Pride"/"Fame". The 7" single featured a heavily edited version (3:22) with the French-language non-album track "Comme un oiseau qui s'envole" as the B-side, included as a bonus track on the Canadian edition of the ''Fame'' album. The 12" single featured a slightly shorter mix of the album version with a cold end, and the B-side an extended mix of "Comme un oiseau qui s'envole". "I Need a Man" is a 1975 single by Grace Jones. Background "I Need a Man" was the debut single for Grace Jones, originally recorded and released in France for the label Orfeus while Jones was still working as a fashion model. It is a disco and funk song. Its initial release passed fairly unnoticed. The track was later re-mixed and released in the U.S. on the minor disco label Beam Junction before Jones signed with Island Records and included it on her 1977 debut album ''Portfolio''. Background "Sorry" was Jones' second single, released before her international breakthrough, on the Orfeus label in France and Beam Junction in the US. Louis Guglielmi (3 April 1916 – 4 April 1991), known by his pen name Louiguy (), was a Spanish-born French musician of Italian descent. He wrote the melody for Édith Piaf's lyrics of "La Vie en Rose" and the Latin jazz composition "Cerisier rose et pommier blanc", a popular song written in 1950, made famous in English as "Cherry Pink (and Apple Blossom White)", which was recast as a resounding mambo hit for Pérez Prado. Guglielmi was born in Barcelona. He studied music at the Conservatoire de Paris in the same class as Maurice Baquet, Henri Betti, Paul Bonneau and Henri Dutilleux. He created almost three dozen film scores, beginning in 1946 with ''La Rose de la mer'' and including ''Mourir d'aimer'' (1970; in English ''To Die of Love'').
