The director of staff of the United States Space Force (SF/DS) is a position in the United States Space Force held by a Lieutenant general (United States), lieutenant general. The officeholder oversees the administration and organization of the Office of the Chief of Space Operations, synchronizing policy, plans, positions, procedures, and cross-functional issues within the headquarters staff. The organizational structure of the Space Force headquarters was first proposed in February 2020 with a director of staff. By July 2020, Major General B. Chance Saltzman was performing the duties in an acting capacity. On July 29, 2020, then-Major General Nina Armagno was nominated for the director of staff position. Lieutenant General (United States)
In the United States Armed Forces, a lieutenant general is a three-star general officer in the United States Army, Marine Corps, Air Force, and Space Force. A lieutenant general ranks above a major general and below a general. The pay grade of lieutenant general is O-9. It is equivalent to the rank of vice admiral in the other United States uniformed services which use naval ranks. It is abbreviated as LTG in the Army, LtGen in the Marine Corps, and Lt Gen in the Air Force and Space Force. The United States Space Force is organized by different units: the Space Staff, the field commands, and the space deltas. Nina Marion Armagno (born March 20, 1966) is a United States Space Force lieutenant general, serving as the director of staff of the United States Space Force. She is the service's first female general officer and the only officer to have commanded both the 30th Space Wing and the 45th Space Wing.
