Purple Toupee
"Purple Toupee" is a 1988 song by alternative rock duo They Might Be Giants from their second album, ''Lincoln''. It was released as a promotional single in 1989. In 1994, a live performance of the song was recorded for the promotional live album, '' Live!! New York City 10/14/94'', which was released by Elektra Records. According to John Linnell, the song's disjointed lyrics recount a warped memory of the 1960s. The song comments on a contemporary "sixties revival", which Linnell perceived as a "one-dimensional caricature" of the decade. In a nod to this inauthenticity, the lyrics are intentionally misleading, and do not accurately represent the events that they reference. Two Prince songs—" Purple Rain" and "Raspberry Beret"—also served as sources of inspiration for "Purple Toupee". Promotion Bar/None Records advertised "Purple Toupee" by pasting fake labels on 8-track tapes by other artists. The cartridges, disguised as a release from TMBG, were mailed to radio stations, i ...

During TMBG's early years, Flansburgh and Linnell frequently performed as a duo, often accompanied by a drum machine. In the early 1990s, TMBG expanded to include a backing band. The duo has been credited as vital in the creation and growth of the prolific DIY music scene in Brooklyn in the mid-1980s; the duo's current backing band consists of Marty Beller, Dan Miller and Danny Weinkauf. The group have been noted for their unique style of alternative music, typically using surreal, humorous lyrics, experimental styles and unconventional instruments in their songs. Over their career, they have found success on the modern rock and college radio charts. The mail or post is a system for physically transporting postcards, letter (message), letters, and parcel (package), parcels. A postal service can be private or public, though many governments place restrictions on private systems. Since the mid-19th century, national postal systems have generally been established as a government monopoly, with a fee on the article prepaid. Proof of payment is usually in the form of an adhesive postage stamp, but a postage meter is also used for bulk mailing. With the advent of email, the retronym "snail mail" was coined. Postal authorities often have functions aside from transporting letters. In some countries, a Postal Telegraph and Telephone, postal, telegraph and telephone (PTT) service oversees the postal system, in addition to telephone and telegraph systems. Mink Car
''Mink Car'' is the eighth studio album by They Might Be Giants, released on September 11, 2001, on the Restless Records label. One of the band's most eclectic efforts, its variety reflects its recording process; it was put together in a number of different studios, with a number of different guest artists and producers, around the country as the band toured between 1999 and 2001. It runs the gamut from pure power-pop songs, such as "Bangs" and "Finished With Lies", to dance music ("Man, It's So Loud In Here"), and soft romantic ballads ("Another First Kiss"). " Man, It's So Loud in Here" was the only single released from the album, though its cover of the Georgie Fame oldie "Yeh Yeh" was featured in a Chrysler car commercial. "Bangs," "Cyclops Rock," "Man, It's So Loud In Here," and "Another First Kiss", as well as "Boss of Me" (which was featured on non-U.S. releases), were released on the band's 2002 anthology compilation '' Dial-A-Song: 20 Years of They Might Be Giants''. ...

Why Does The Sun Shine? (The Sun Is A Mass Of Incandescent Gas)
''Why Does the Sun Shine? (The Sun Is a Mass of Incandescent Gas)'' is an EP by alternative rock band They Might Be Giants, released in 1993. The EP is notable for being their first release with a full-band lineup, rather than only the two original members (John Flansburgh and John Linnell) performing. It was also released as a single on 7-inch vinyl. Songs The title song is a cover of a song by Hy Zaret from Tom Glazer's 1959 album '' Space Songs''. The lyrics for the refrain appear verbatim in the 1951 Golden Nature Guide ''Stars''. They Might Be Giants re-arranged the song in an uptempo version for their 1998 live album, '' Severe Tire Damage'', and their 2009 children's album, '' Here Comes Science'', on which they added the self-penned "Why Does the Sun Really Shine? (The Sun is a Miasma of Incandescent Plasma)", which corrects several factual inaccuracies in the original song. It was also included on the soundtrack to the children's game show '' Carmen Sandiego: Out of This ...

Elektra Records (or Elektra Entertainment) is an American record label owned by Warner Music Group, founded in 1950 by Jac Holzman and Paul Rickolt. In June 2022, Elektra Music Group was merged with 300 Entertainment to create the umbrella label 300 Elektra Entertainment (3EE), though both Elektra and 300 will continue to maintain their separate identities as labels. Particle Man
"Particle Man" is a song by alternative rock band They Might Be Giants, released and published in 1990. The song is the seventh track on the band's third album, ''Flood''. It has become one of the band's most popular songs, despite never having been released as a single. John Linnell and John Flansburgh performed the song, backed by a metronome, for their 1990 ''Flood'' promotional video. Although it was released over a decade before the band began writing children's music, "Particle Man" is sometimes cited as a particularly youth-appropriate TMBG song, and a precursor to their first children's album, ''No!'', which was not explicitly educational. The song is partially influenced by the theme of the 1967 ''Spider-Man'' TV series. They Might Be Giants' official YouTube account has the user name "ParticleMen", derived from the song title. Lyrical content The song describes four different "men": Particle Man, a microscopic being whose attributes are deemed "not important" enough ...
