Diogenes Rivas
Diogenes Rivas (born October 4, 1942) is a Venezuelan composer as well as a researcher of contemporary music. Additionally, he devotes time to teaching and the training of young composers. Rivas is the co-founder and artistic director of the Festival Atempo (Caracas) and artistic director (along with Pierre Strauch and Antonio Pileggi) of the Paris ''Nuit d'Atempo''. Biography Diogenes Rivas began to study music in the city of Mérida at the age of four with his father, Professor Jose Rafael Rivas, studying piano and oboe. Later on, in Caracas, his teachers were Moleiro Moses and Inocente Carreño (from 1954 to 1957). He continued his studies at the ''Academia Santa Cecilia in Rome'', Italy, from 1958 to 1964. He also studied conducting with Sir John Barbirolli and Carlo Zecchi in Taormina, Italy and with Bruno Maderna in Salzburg, Austria (1968). Moisés Moleiro
Moisés Moleiro (28 March 190418 June 1979) was a Venezuelan pianist and composer. He was born in 1904 and studied under Salvador Llamozas. Moleiro founded the Orfeón Lamas and taught piano at the ''Caracas Musical Declamation Academy'' (today the ''Escuela de Música José Ángel Lamas''). His works have been performed in the United States, Europe, and across Latin America. One of his most popular compositions is the Joropo, a piano take on Venezuela's folkloric music. He died in 1979. László Hadady (born 1956) is a French oboist of Hungarian origin, currently a soloist and professor at the Conservatoire de Paris. Biography Born in Békésszentandrás (Hungary), Hadady studied music at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music of Budapest. He graduated in 1979 after training in solfège, harmony, musical analysis, oboe, piano, chamber music, pedagogy and aesthetics. He joined the Hungarian Symphony Orchestra as a soloist in 1976. Alain Damiens
Alain Damiens (born 1950 in Calais) is a French classical clarinetist. Life After studying clarinet at the Conservatoire de Calais, Alain Damiens studied with Ulysse Delécluse at the Conservatoire de Paris and obtained his first prizes (clarinet, chamber music). He received a scholarship to the National Music Camp Michigan in the United States, where he studied clarinet, chamber music and orchestra. He was solo clarinet at the Orchestre philharmonique de Strasbourg and at « Pupitre 14 » (Amiens). In 1976, by artistic choice, he joined the IRCAM (clarinet in B flat, small clarinet in E flat, basset horn, bass clarinet) conducted by Pierre Boulez. José Manuel Briceño Guerrero
José Manuel Briceño Guerrero (Palmarito, Apure, Venezuela, 6 March 1929 - Mérida, 31 October 2014) was a Venezuelan writer, philologist and philosopher. A large part of his work was published under the pen-name Jonuel Brigue. After doctoring in Vienna in 1961 with a thesis entitled “The Socio-Psychological Foundations of Latin American Spanish,” Briceño Guerrero worked for decades as Professor of Philosophy and Classical languages at the Universidad de Los Andes, Mérida. In 1981 he was awarded the Venezuelan Premio Nacional de Ensayo, and in 1996 the Premio Nacional de Cultura (Literatura). He is considered one of the most influential and original Latin-American thinkers, and some of his works have been translated into French and German, some as part of the UNESCO Collection of Representative Works.
