Diocese Of Udon Thani
The (Roman Catholic) Diocese of Udon Thani (''Dioecesis Udonthaniensis'', th, สังฆมณฑลอุดรธานี) is in northeast Thailand. It is a suffragan diocese of the archdiocese of Thare and Nonseng. The diocese covers an area of 50,046 km², covering five provinces of Thailand: Khon Kaen Province, Khon Kaen, Loei Province, Loei, Nongbua Lamphu Province, Nongbua Lamphu, Nong Khai Province, Nong Khai, and Udon Thani Province, Udon Thani. As of 2001, of the 5.3 million citizens, 5,612 are members of the Catholic Church. It is divided into 56 parishes, having 31 priests altogether. History The Prefecture Apostolic of Udonthani was created on May 7, 1953, when the archdiocese of Thare and Nonseng, Vicariate Apostolic of Thare was split. The (Roman Catholic) Archdiocese of Thare and Nonseng (''Archidioecesis Tharensis et Nonsengensis''; th, อัครสังฆมณฑลท่าแร่-หนองแสง, ) is located in the north-east of Thailand. It is based in Tha Rae, a subdistrict municipality (''thesaban tambon'') in the Mueang Sakon Nakhon district. The diocese covers an area of 25,477 km², covering four provinces of Thailand - Kalasin, Mukdahan, Nakhon Phanom and Sakon Nakhon. Nong Bua Lamphu ( th, หนองบัวลำภู, , ) is one of Thailand's seventy-six provinces (''changwat'') lies in upper northeastern Thailand also called Isan. Nong Khai Province
Nong Khai province ( th, หนองคาย, ) was formerly the northernmost of the Isan, northeastern (Isan) Provinces of Thailand, provinces (''changwat'') of Thailand until its eight eastern districts were split off to form Thailand's newest province, Bueng Kan province, in 2011. Nong Khai province lies in Isan#Administrative divisions, upper northeastern Thailand. Nearby provinces are (clockwise, from the east): Bueng Kan, Sakon Nakhon province, Sakon Nakhon, Udon Thani province, Udon Thani, and Loei province, Loei. Clarence James Duhart
Clarence James Duhart, CSsR (March 23, 1912 – September 21, 1998) was an American born bishop in the Catholic Church. He served as the first bishop of the Diocese of Undon Thani in the region of Isan, Thailand from 1965–1975. Biography Duhart was born in New Orleans, Louisiana. He was educated at the Redemptorist minor seminary, St. Joseph's College, in Kirkwood, Missouri. He attended novitiate in De Soto, Missouri where he professed religious vows as a Redemptorist in the St. Louis Province. He studied for the priesthood at Immaculate Conception Seminary in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin and was ordained there on June 29, 1937. Father Duhart served as a priest in the United States and as a missionary in the Vice Province of Bangkok until May 7, 1953 when Pope Pius XII named him to be the Apostolic Prefect of the newly established Prefecture Apostolic of Udonthani. Prefecture Apostolic
An apostolic prefect or prefect apostolic is a priest who heads what is known as an apostolic prefecture, a 'pre-diocesan' missionary jurisdiction where the Catholic Church is not yet sufficiently developed to have it made a diocese. Although it usually has an (embryonal) see, it is often not called after such city but rather after a natural or administrative (in many cases colonial) geographical area. If a prefecture grows and flourishes, it may be elevated to an apostolic vicariate, headed by a titular bishop, in the hope that with time the region will generate enough Catholics and stability for its Catholic institutions, to warrant being established as a diocese.
