The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Salta (erected 28 March 1806, as the Diocese of Salta) is in Argentina and is a metropolitan diocese, responsible for the suffragan Dioceses of Catamarca, Jujuy and Orán as well as the Territorial Prelatures of Cafayate and Humahuaca. History It was created on 17 February 1807, the territory being taken from the ancient Diocese of Córdoba del Tucumán. Until 1898, it comprised also the civil Provinces of Tucumán, Santiago del Estero, and Catamarca, which were then detached to form new dioceses. Cathedral Of Salta
Salta Cathedral ( es, Catedral Basílica de Salta, ''Catedral de Salta'') is a Roman Catholic cathedral in Salta, Argentina. The church serves as the seat and the metropolitan cathedral of the Archbishop of Salta. The cathedral is dedicated to Jesus Christ as the “Lord of Miracles” and the Blessed Virgin Mary as the “Our Lady of the Miraculous Rosary”. Pope Leo XIII granted a decree of Pontifical coronation for both of its enshrined images on 23 July 1899 via the Bishop Ordinary of Salta, Monsignor Matías Linares y Sanzetenea. The same bishop executed the rite of public coronation in 13 September 1902. The shrine was inaugurated to the public on 20 October 1918 and finally declared a national monument No. #95687 by the Government of Argentina on 14 June 1941. José Eusebio Colombres
José Eusebio Colombres (16 December 1778 – 11 February 1859) was an Argentine statesman and bishop. He was a representative to the Congress of Tucumán of 9 July 1816 which declared the Independence of Argentina, and is credited with the foundation of the important sugar cane industry in Tucumán Province. Colombres was born in San Miguel de Tucumán into an influential family and became a cleric in August 1803 in Catamarca and a Doctor in Canon Law at the University of San Carlos in Córdoba. Colombres was elected by Catamarca Province to the Tucumán Congress in 1816, having served as a parish priest in Piedra Blanca in that province. After independence, he participated in the League of the North and consequently had to live in exile in Livi-Livi close to Tupiza, Bolivia, until the fall of Juan Manuel de Rosas.
