The Roman Catholic Diocese of Kharkiv-Zaporizhzhia ( la, Dioecesis Kharkiviensis-Zaporizhiensis) is a diocese of the Latin Church of the Catholic Church in Ukraine. Pavlo Honcharuk is the current Bishops in the Catholic Church, bishop of the diocese. The diocesan seat is the Cathedral of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Kharkiv, Cathedral of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Kharkiv, and the co-cathedral is the Co-Cathedral of the Merciful Father, Zaporizhzhia, Co-Cathedral of the Merciful Father in Zaporizhzhia. History The diocese was created in 2002, when territory from the dioceses of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Kamyanets-Podilskyi, Diocese of Kamyanets-Podilskyi, and the Roman Catholic Diocese of Kyiv-Zhytomyr, Diocese of Kyiv-Zhytomyr was split off and merged. Cathedral Of The Assumption Of The Blessed Virgin Mary, Kharkiv
The Cathedral of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary ( uk, Кафедральний собор Успіння Пресвятої Діви Марії ) also called Assumption Cathedral is the name given to a religious building affiliated with the Roman Catholic Church and is located in the city of Kharkiv, in Kharkiv Oblast in east part of the European country of Ukraine. The temple was built in neo-Gothic style between 1887 and 1892 on Gogol Street. The author of the temple project was a Polish architect, Bolesław Michałowski (1830-1909). He designed about 30 buildings in Kharkiv. In the thirties of the twentieth century, during the period of the Soviet Union the church was closed and turned into secular Local housed, among others, a cinema and an installation of the Communist Party.
