Bringing Up Father
''Bringing Up Father'' is an American comic strip created by cartoonist George McManus. Distributed by King Features Syndicate, it ran for 87 years, from January 2, 1913, to May 28, 2000. The strip was later titled ''Jiggs and Maggie'' (or ''Maggie and Jiggs''), after its two main characters. According to McManus, he introduced these same characters in other strips as early as November 1911. Characters and story The humor centers on an immigrant Irishman named Jiggs, a former hod carrier who came into wealth in the United States by winning a million dollars in a sweepstakes. Now nouveau-riche, he still longs to revert to his former working class habits and lifestyle. Francis Moore (ice Hockey)
Francis William "Dinty" Moore (October 29, 1900 – January 21, 1976) was a Canadian goaltender who competed in ice hockey at the 1936 Winter Olympics. He was born in Port Colborne, Ontario and died in Morgan's Point, Ontario. Moore was a 1920 Memorial Cup Champion goalie with the Toronto Canoe Club Paddlers of the Ontario Hockey Association. He was a member of the 1936 Port Arthur Bearcats, which won the silver medal for Canada at the 1936 Winter Olympics. Following the Olympics, he played one season in the OHA Senior A League with the Toronto Goodyears. Moore was president of the Ontario Hockey Association from 1942 through 1945. He was made a lifetime member of the Ontario Hockey Association in 1962. Since 1976, the F. W. "Dinty" Moore Trophy has been given annually to the Ontario Hockey League rookie goaltender with the best regular season goals against average. Red Buttons (born Aaron Chwatt; February 5, 1919 – July 13, 2006) was an American actor and comedian. He won an Oscar and a Golden Globe for his supporting role in the 1957 film ''Sayonara''. He was nominated for awards for his acting work in films such as '' They Shoot Horses, Don't They?'', ''Harlow'', and '' Pete's Dragon''. Buttons played the lead role of Private John Steele, the paratrooper hung up on the town steeple clock, in the 1962 international ensemble cast film '' The Longest Day''.
