Dinsdale is a railway station on the Tees Valley Line, which runs between and via . The station, situated east of Darlington, serves the village of Middleton St George, Darlington in County Durham, England. It is owned by Network Rail and managed by Northern Trains. History The station was opened by the North Eastern Railway on 1 July 1887. It is closely linked with the history of the Stockton and Darlington Railway, having opened as a replacement for the nearby . The station was named after the village of Low Dinsdale, Borough of Darlington, which is commonly referred to as Dinsdale. In the early nineteenth century, the station served Dinsdale Spa. Middleton St George is a large village and civil parish in the borough of Darlington and the ceremonial county of County Durham, England. It is situated approximately east of Darlington. According to the 2011 UK Census the population was 3,779, including Middleton One Row, Low Middleton and Oak Tree. It has grown rapidly since the mid-1990s, becoming a commuter area for Darlington. Low Dinsdale
Low Dinsdale is a village and former civil parish in the borough of Darlington and the ceremonial county of County Durham, England. The Parish population taken at the 2011 census was 871. It is situated a few miles to the south-east of Darlington. Historically the village was commonly known as Dinsdale. "Low" was added to distinguish the village from the neighbouring village of Over Dinsdale, on the opposite bank of the River Tees in North Yorkshire. The toponym was recorded in Domesday Book as ''Dignesale'' and ''Dirneshale'', and recorded in 1088 as ''Detnisale''. The name is Old English and means either "nook of land belonging to a man named Dyttin" or "nook of land belonging to Deighton". Deighton was in the same wapentake ( Allerton) as Over Dinsdale. The British Rail Class 158 '' Express Sprinter'' is a diesel multiple unit (DMU) passenger train. The station, situated east of Middlesbrough, serves the seaside town of Saltburn-by-the-Sea, Redcar and Cleveland in North Yorkshire, England.
