Dindo Yogo
Dindo Yogo, real name Théodore Dindo Mabeli, (December 30, 1955 in Lokutu – August 23, 2000) was a Congolese singer and musician. He was also called ''La Voix Cassée'' (the Broken Voice). In 1978, Dindo Yogo joined Papa Wemba's Viva La Musica. In September 1981, with three other colleagues—guitarist Popolipo Zanguila, and fellow vocalists Djuna Djanana and "Espérant" Kisangani Djenga—Dindo Yogo left Papa Wemba's band (which was itself a sort of spin-off from Zaiko Langa Langa, or a member of the loose family of bands known as Clan Langa Langa). The four from Viva La Musica joined three musicians who had quit Zaiko Langa Langa— Evoloko Jocker, Djo Mali and Bozi Boziana—in forming the Langa Langa Stars. Lokutu (sometimes spelled Lukutu) is a town in Tshopo province, Democratic Republic of the Congo. It is on the west bank of the Congo River, and was formerly named Elisabetha. Jules Shungu Wembadio Pene Kikumba (14 June 1949 – 24 April 2016), known professionally as Papa Wemba (), was a Congolese singer and musician who played Congolese rumba, soukous, and ndombolo. Dubbed the "King of Rumba Rock", he was one of the most popular musicians of his time in Africa and played an important role in world music. Evoloko Jocker
Evoloko Atshuamo, best known as Evoloko Jocker (sometimes spelled Joker) or Lay Lay, is a popular congolese soukous singer. Since the late 1960s, he has been in several major soukous bands, such as Zaiko Langa Langa, Isifi Lokole, and Langa Langa Stars. Biography Evoloko was born in Belgian Congo (now the Democratic Republic of the Congo). He began his career in Zaiko Langa Langa, one of the biggest Congolese soukous bands, in 1969. His talent was so enthusiastically acclaimed by the public that he quickly became the frontman and band leader. Along with other musicians including Papa Wemba, Mavuela Somo, Gina Efonge, they created ''cavacha'', a sound and dance style that became a trademark of Zaiko and a craze in East Africa in the 1970s. Mbenzu Ngamboni Bokili (born 28 September 1951), better known as Bozi Boziana, is a Congolese singer, songwriter and bandleader. Langa Langa Stars were a popular DR Congo soukous band in the 1980s. The band had the peculiarity of featuring as much as seven lead vocalists, nicknamed the "6 Patrons of Langa Langa Stars". Langa Langa Stars were founded in 1981 as a spin-off of Papa Wemba's band Viva La Musica, which in turn may be described as a spin-off of the seminal soukous band Zaiko Langa Langa; it can thus be classified in the so-called "Clan Langa Langa", a large set of soukous bands that are directly or indirectly derivative of Zaiko. Verckys Kiamuangana Mateta
Georges Kiamuangana Mateta (19 May 1944 – 13 October 2022), known professionally as Verckys, was a Congolese saxophonist, composer, bandleader, producer, record label founder, and music-business executive. He was renowned as a talented and prolific musician, and was the first indigenous African to own a record label, through which he introduced many major Congolese artists to the world. Biography Born in Kisantu as Georges Kiamuangana on 19 May 1944, he came from a wealthy family; his father was a businessman in Leopoldville (now Kinshasa). Kiamuangana learned music at church. Bimi Ombale
Bimi Ombale (21 July 1952- 29 April 2011, born Andre Bimi Ombale, also known as Andre Bimi, Bimi Ombale, Mwana Wabi) was a Congolese singer, drummer and songwriter. He was a member of the band Zaiko Langa Langa from 1969 to 1988 and its most successful and prolific songwriter. Musical history 1968-9: Early years Ombale was a drummer for the rhythm and blues and pop band Zezes (1968–1969). 1969-80: Zaiko Langa Langa Ombale joined Zaiko in 1969, two days before the band first public performance. He was brought in by Vieux Otis, a friend of the founding members as a drummer for the pop section of the group. Joseph Roger N'Yoka M'Vula (born 7 September 1953), known professionally as Jossart N’Yoka Longo, is a Congolese singer-songwriter and musician. In December of 1969, alongside Félix Manuaku Waku and Papa Wemba, he co-founded Zaïko Langa Langa, one of the most influential African bands, which he also leads.
