Dindigul C. Srinivasan
Dindigul C. Sreenivasan (born 1 April 1948) is an Indian politician and former four term Member of Parliament of India elected from Tamil Nadu. He is currently serving as Member Of Legislative Assembly for Dindigul Constituency since 2016. He is one of senior most member of the party AIADMK.He served as Minister for Forests for Tamil Nadu from 2016 to 2021. He is the treasurer of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) From 11 July 2022. He was elected to the Lok Sabha from Dindigul constituency as an AIADMK candidate in the Indian general elections of 1989, 1991, 1998 and 1999 in Tamil Nadu. Elected in Legislative Assembly Election 2016 and 2021 in Dindigulassembly Constituency for consecutive 2 terms, he belongs to Piramalai Kallar Community. Piramalai Kallar
Piramalai Kallars is a sub caste of the Kallars and thus are part of the Mukkulathor community that also includes the Maravar and Agamudayar castes.They belong to Most backward class/Denotified class in Tamil nadu. History Copper plate inscriptions dated 1645, 1652, 1655 and 1656 are the most important artefacts about the Piramalai Kallars. According to these, during the period of Thirumalai Nayak, members of the community were appointed as guards ("kavalkarars") of villages. The Piramalai Kallar group responsible for a village had to compensate for any theft in that village. Piramalai Kallar local chieftains, such as Tirumal Pinna Thevar, also performed judicial duties by organising panchayats. This is described in the 1655 inscription. With a separate system of judiciary and policing, they refused to accede to British rule. The 1999 Indian general election polls in Tamil Nadu were held for 39 seats in the state. The result was a victory for the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) which won 26 seats. After leaving the NDA, All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, hoped to create some damage, but ended up losing 8 seats, compared to the 1998 Lok Sabha elections. This is also the first time that Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, allied with the Bharatiya Janata Party, helping them have power at the national level for the next 5 years with the NDA, before they joined the UPA. The NDA, ended up losing 3 seats, compared to the election the year before, due to AIADMK leaving the NDA, but the seats were made up, because DMK left the united front and joined the NDA. The 1998 Indian general election polls in Tamil Nadu were held for 39 seats in the state. New elections were called when Indian National Congress (INC) left the United Front government led by I. K. Gujral, after they refused to drop the regional Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) party from the government after the DMK was linked by an investigative panel to Sri Lankan separatists blamed for the killing of Rajiv Gandhi.
