Dimmick, Illinois
Dimmick is an unincorporated community in LaSalle County, Illinois located northeast of Peru in Dimmick Township. In recent years, it has increased in population, with the construction of the small "Dimmick Fields" subdivision. History The town was named for its founder, Daniel Dimmick, who emigrated here from Mansfield, Connecticut by way of Hennepin, Illinois in 1833. The railroad was extended to Dimmick by the Illinois Central Railroad. In 1873, a rail depot was constructed to replace an earlier one that had fallen into disrepair and the town was platted. By 1876, the town was home to three stores and a blacksmith. A post office was established at Dimmick in 1877, and remained in operation until 1912. Passenger service continued until the early 1930s before being discontinued. Peru is a city in LaSalle County, Illinois, United States. The population was 9,896 at the 2020 census, down from 10,295 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Ottawa, IL Micropolitan Statistical Area. Peru and its twin city, LaSalle, make up the core of Illinois Valley. History The city's first settler was John Hays, who arrived in 1830. Illinois Central Railroad
The Illinois Central Railroad , sometimes called the Main Line of Mid-America, was a railroad in the Central United States, with its primary routes connecting Chicago, Illinois, with New Orleans, Louisiana, and Mobile, Alabama. A line also connected Chicago with Sioux City, Iowa (1870). There was a significant branch to Omaha, Nebraska (1899), west of Fort Dodge, Iowa, and another branch reaching Sioux Falls, South Dakota (1877), starting from Cherokee, Iowa. The Sioux Falls branch has been abandoned in its entirety. The Canadian National Railway acquired control of the IC in 1998, and merged its operations in 1999. Hennepin is a village located on the Illinois River in Putnam County, Illinois, United States. The population was 757 in 2010, an increase of 50 since the 2000 census. It is the county seat and second largest village in Putnam County. Hennepin is part of the Ottawa Micropolitan Statistical Area. History The Village of Hennepin was named for the explorer, Father Louis Hennepin, O. F. M. Mansfield, Connecticut
Mansfield is a town in Tolland County, Connecticut, United States. The population was 25,892 at the 2020 census. Pequot and Mohegan people lived in this region for centuries before the arrival of English settler-immigrants in the late 17th century. Mansfield was incorporated in October 1702 from the Town of Windham, in Hartford County. The community was named after Major Moses Mansfield, a part owner of the town site. When Windham County was formed on 12 May 1726, Mansfield then became part of that county.
