Dimitrios Kalapothakis
Dimitrios Kalapothakis (1865 – 27 May 1921) was a Greek reporter and founder of the newspaper ''Empros'' ("Forward"). Biography Kalapothakis was born in 1865 in Areopoli, Mani Peninsula. He abandoned his studies in the University of Athens, when Thessaly was annexed to Greece in 1881 he went to Volos where he started publishing his newspaper ''Simaia'' ("Flag"). For many years, Kalapothakis was a political columnist who openly supported Charilaos Trikoupis. After the latter's death he started publishing the ''Embros'' ("Forward") newspaper. Kalapothakis was one of the most important personalities of the Greek press as a reporter and also one of the many organisers of the Hellenic Macedonian Committee in 1904. He joined for the purpose of combatting Bulgarian influence in Macedonia and he provided guns, money and equipment to the Greek fighters. Areopoli
Areopoli ( el, Αρεόπολη; before 1912 , ) is a town on the Mani Peninsula, Laconia, Greece. The word ''Areopoli'', which means "city of Ares", the ancient Greek god of war, became the official name in 1912. It was the seat of Oitylo municipality. The Greek War of Independence was started at Areopoli on March 17, 1821 by Petros Pierrakos, also known as Petros Mavromichalis, the last bey of Mani. Now Areopoli has grown into a flourishing town. Its tower houses, constructed with field stones, are distinct from the traditional blue and white buildings that characterize many Greek villages. Areopoli is situated near the west coast of the Mani Peninsula, 1.5 km from its port ''Limeni''. It is 20 km southwest of Gytheio. The National Schism ( el, Εθνικός Διχασμός, Ethnikós Dichasmós), also sometimes called The Great Division, was a series of disagreements between Constantine I of Greece, King Constantine I and Prime Minister Eleftherios Venizelos regarding the foreign policy of Kingdom of Greece, Greece in the period of 1910–1922 of which the tipping point was whether Greece should enter World War I. Venizelos was in support of the Allies of World War I, Allies and wanted Greece to join the war on their side, while the pro-German Empire, German King wanted Greece to remain neutral, which would favor the plans of the Central Powers. The disagreement had wider implications, since it would also affect the character and role of the king in the state. The dismissal of Venizelos by the King resulted in a deep personal rift between the two and in subsequent events their followers divided into two radically opposed political camps affecting the wider Greek society. Charilaos Trikoupis
Charilaos Trikoupis ( el, Χαρίλαος Τρικούπης; 11 July 1832 – 30 March 1896) was a Greek politician who served as a Prime Minister of Greece seven times from 1875 until 1895. He is best remembered for introducing the vote of confidence in the Greek constitution, proposing and funding such ambitious and modern projects as the construction of the Corinth Canal, but also eventually leading the country to bankruptcy. Nowadays, he is commonly considered one of the greatest Greek Prime Ministers to ever have served.
