Dillon, Texas
Dillon is a ghost town in Hopkins County, Texas, located 30 miles east of Miller Grove near Saltillo, Texas. The town was named after E. F. Dillon, who started operating the post office in his store in 1901. The post office closed in 1906, and in the mid-1930s the town disappeared from highway maps. In popular culture Dillon shares a name with the fictionalized setting of '' Friday Night Lights''. Hopkins County is a county located in the U.S. state of Texas. As of the 2020 census, its population was 36,787. Its county seat is Sulphur Springs. Hopkins County is named for the family of David Hopkins, an early settler in the area. Hopkins County comprises the Sulphur Springs, TX Micropolitan Statistical Area. Hopkins County was once known as the Dairy Capital of Texas. Although dairy farms declined in the area in the late 1990s there are still a number of these located there. Saltillo is an unincorporated community in Hopkins County, Texas, in the United States. It is located sixteen miles east of Sulphur Springs at the intersection of US 67 and FM 900. Saltillo has a population of approximately 300. Despite being unincorporated, Saltillo has its own post office, assigned the ZIP code of 75478. The Saltillo Independent School District serves area students. History On January 13, 1985, Saltillo was the location of a car chase and shootout between FBI agents, Texas Rangers, and a group of kidnappers. Two of the six kidnappers were wounded in the gunfight, and their hostage, a thirteen-year-old girl, was rescued unharmed.
