Dillingham ( esu, Curyung; russian: Диллингхем ), also known as Curyung, is a city in Dillingham Census Area, Alaska, United States. Incorporated in 1963, it is an important commercial fishing port on Nushagak Bay. As of the 2020 census, the population of the city was 2,249, down from 2,329 in 2010. Geography Dillingham is on Nushagak Bay at the mouth of the Nushagak River, an inlet of Bristol Bay, an arm of the Bering Sea in the North Pacific, in southwestern Alaska. Wood River (Nushagak River Tributary)
Wood River is a waterway in Alaska as well as a location outside Dillingham, Alaska by Wood River Road and the Wood River. The Wood River Lakes Trail is used for backcountry float trips. The Wood River Mountains are nearby. Wood River Road is one of the areas transportation routes. The rivers source is the Aleknagik Lake. The river runs past Dillingham where it meets the Nushagak River and enters Nushagak Bay. Nushagak was a former trading post by the area where the rivers met. Bristol Bay
Bristol Bay ( esu, Iilgayaq, russian: Залив Бристольский) is the easternmost arm of the Bering Sea, at 57° to 59° North 157° to 162° West in Southwest Alaska. Bristol Bay is 400 km (250 mi) long and 290 km, (180 mi) wide at its mouth. A number of rivers flow into the bay, including the Cinder, Egegik, Igushik, Kvichak, Meshik, Nushagak, Naknek, Togiak, and Ugashik. Upper reaches of Bristol Bay experience some of the highest tides in the world. Nushagak River
The Nushagak River ( esu, Iilgayaq) is a river in southwest Alaska, United States. It begins in the Alaska Range and flows southwest to Nushagak Bay, an inlet of Bristol Bay, east of Dillingham, Alaska. The Mulchatna River is a major tributary. Other navigable tributaries include the Nuyakuk River and the King Salmon River. Jet-boats are commonly used to access these tributaries and the upper Nushagak. The Wood River, Iowithla River and the Kokwok River are smaller tributaries. The villages of Portage Creek, Ekwok, Koliganek and New Stuyahok are on the river.
