Dilettantes (album)
''Dilettantes'' is the eighth studio album by the Australian rock band You Am I, released on 13 September 2008. It was recorded at Electric Avenue Studios in Sydney and Sing Sing South in Melbourne before being mixed at Studios 301 in Sydney. The first single, "Erasmus", was premiered on Triple J radio on Dools & Linda's show on 6 August, and was released on iTunes along with the album's title track as a downloadable single on 6 September. Video clips were released in November for "Beau Geste" and " Givin' Up And Gettin Fat" to be released as radio/iTunes singles. The title track, "Dilettantes", was previewed as streaming audio on The Vine from 30 July 2008. The iTunes Plus release includes a bonus video of live footage from a 1998 gig at the Budokan, supporting Soundgarden, on the '' #4 Record'' tour. Rusty Hopkinson
Russell Keith "Rusty" Hopkinson is an Australian rock musician and record label owner. He joined alternative rockers, You Am I, in 1993 on drums, percussion and backing vocals. He had previously been a member of the Bamboos (1986–87) and Kryptonics (1987–88). He established a record label, Reverberation, in 2003 with his former Kryptonics bandmate, Ian Underwood. Biography Early in 1981 in Perth, Hopkinson was the lead vocalist and guitarist for Circle A, which included Don Burr on lead guitar and the Tarrant brothers: Dan on bass guitar and John on drums. They disbanded before the end of the year while Hopkinson and Burr (now on bass guitar) formed Zoo Rejects in the following year with Sean Pickergill on guitar and vocals, and Craig Weighell on drums. Kent was the band's live sound engineer prior to being asked to join the band at a performance in Canberra. Kent's first recorded appearance with the band was on their '' Goddamn'' EP in 1992. Timothy Adrian Rogers (born 20 September 1969), known professionally as Tim Rogers, is an Australian musician, actor and writer, best known as the frontman of Australian rock band You Am I. He has also recorded solo albums with backing bands. As of July 2013, Rogers has released 12 albums with You Am I and five solo albums. Early life Born in Kalgoorlie, Western Australia, Rogers moved between towns multiple times during his adolescence, including Adelaide and Canberra. Following his primary school years in Applecross, a suburb of Perth, Rogers later became school captain at Sydney school Oakhill College. Rogers studied law at the Australian National University in Canberra, aged 18, though did not complete a degree. The , often shortened to simply Budokan, is an indoor arena located in Chiyoda, Tokyo, Japan. It was originally built for the inaugural Olympic judo competition in the 1964 Summer Olympics. "Beau Geste" is the second single from the album '' Dilettantes'' by Australian rock band You Am I, their eighth studio album. The track is loosely based on the Beau Geste story, with snippets of French dialog appearing during the instrumental section. It was released as a download only single on iTunes on 8 November 2008 in three formats – one with just the single, one with a b-side and one with the music video, which is in part a homage to the various film versions of ''Beau Geste''.
