Diken (newspaper)
''Diken'' is an online Turkish news site edited by Erdal Güven. The site was first launched on 27 January 2014. Its founder Harun Simavi is the grandson of Sedat Simavi. Simavi described Diken's mission thus: "To be a thorn in the media that's asked to portray our country as a rose garden, and to defend our democracy, basic freedoms, and secularism. And while carrying out this mission, to bring the profession of journalism the dignity and honor that it deserves." Turkish ( , ), also referred to as Turkish of Turkey (''Türkiye Türkçesi''), is the most widely spoken of the Turkic languages, with around 80 to 90 million speakers. Sedat Simavi (1896 – 11 December 1953) was a Turkish people, Turkish journalist, writer and film director. He established many newspapers and magazines. Biography Simavi was born in 1896. His grandfather and uncles served in different positions in the office of List of sultans of the Ottoman Empire, Ottoman Sultans. His parents were Halil Hamdi Bey and Aliye Hanım. She was granddaughter of Grand vizier, Grand Vizier Saffet Pasha. Simavi graduated from Galatasaray High School in 1912. In 1916 Simavi started his first publication entitled ''Hande'', a weekly women's magazine. Then he launched a satirical magazine, ''Diken (magazine), Diken'' and another women's magazine ''İnci''. His first daily newspaper was ''Dersaadet'' which was established in 1920. Levent Gültekin
Levent is a neighbourhood and one of the main business districts of Istanbul, Turkey, located on the European side of the city. It is a part of the municipality of Beşiktaş and is situated to the north of the Golden Horn, at the western shore of the Bosphorus strait. Levent, together with nearby Maslak, is one of the main business districts on the European side of the city, where numerous skyscraper projects are currently under construction or in the planning phase. Hurrem Sultan (, ota, خُرّم سلطان, translit=Ḫurrem Sulṭān, tr, Hürrem Sultan, label= Modern Turkish; 1500 – 15 April 1558), also known as Roxelana ( uk, Роксолана}; ), was the chief consort and legal wife of the Ottoman sultan Suleiman the Magnificent. She became one of the most powerful and influential women in Ottoman history as well as a prominent and controversial figure during the era known as the Sultanate of Women. Born in Ruthenia (then an eastern region of the Kingdom of Poland, now Rohatyn, Ukraine) to a Ruthenian Orthodox priest, Hurrem was captured by Crimean Tatars during a slave raid and eventually taken to Istanbul, the Ottoman capital.
