Digha (Vidhan Sabha Constituency)
Digha Assembly constituency is one of 243 legislative assembly constituencies of the legislative assembly of Bihar in India. It comes under Patna Sahib (Lok Sabha constituency). It came into existence in 2008 after delimitation. Digha assembly constituency has six panchayats and 21 wards of Patna Municipal Corporation. Digha is Bihar's largest assembly constituency having 400 booths with around 4 lakh voters. In 2015 Bihar Legislative Assembly election, Digha was one of the 36 seats to have VVPAT enabled electronic voting machines. Bihar Legislative Assembly
The Bihar Legislative Assembly, also known as the Bihar Vidhan Sabha, is the lower house of the Bihar Legislature where the first elections were held in 1952. The total strength of membership in the Assembly was 331, including one nominated member. Dr.Shri Krishna Singh became the first Leader of the House and the first Chief Minister, Dr. Anugrah Narayan Singh was elected as the first Deputy Leader of the Assembly and became state's first Deputy Chief Minister. It was reduced to 318 during the second General Elections. In 1977, the total number of elected members of the Bihar Legislative Assembly was further raised from 318 to 325. With the creation of a separate State of Jharkhand, by an Act of Parliament titled as the Bihar Reorganisation Act, the strength of the Bihar Legislative Assembly was reduced from 325 to 243 members. Digha is a residential neighbourhood in Patna. The area is served by Digha PS under Patna Police. Digha is mostly known for the "Ghats" mean place near Ganga river. Digha is a seaside resort town in the state of West Bengal, India. It lies in Purba Medinipur district and at the northern end of the Bay of Bengal. It has a low gradient with a shallow sand beach. It is a popular sea resort in West Bengal. History Originally, there was a place called ''Beerkul'', where Digha lies today. This name was referred in Warren Hastings's letters (1780) as Brighton of the East.
