Weddings Parties Anything
Weddings, Parties, Anything. was an Australian folk rock band formed in 1984 in Melbourne and continuing until 1999. Their name came from The Clash song "Revolution Rock". Musicologist Billy Pinnell described their first album as the best Australian rock debut since Skyhooks' ''Living in the 70's''. The band was led by Mick Thomas, the only continual member throughout the group's history. The single "Father's Day" was nominated for Single of the Year as well as winning Song of the Year at the 1993 ARIA awards. They were renowned for their energetic live performances and in particular their annual Christmas shows at the Central Club Hotel in Swan Street, Richmond held in the lead up to Christmas Eve every year from the late 1980s to 1998. The band have reunited to play live on a number of occasions since their original breakup. rooArt was an Australian independent record label, founded in 1988 by INXS's then-manager, Chris Murphy. The label's roster included several well-known Australian bands and artists such as Crow, Ratcat, Screaming Jets, You Am I, Wendy Matthews, The Hummingbirds, The Trilobites and Amanda Brown. Other bands which made early or first releases on the rooArt label included Hipslingers, The Last Metro, The Lab, The Fauves, Bellicose and Custard. rooArt released a series of three compilation albums of new or then-unsigned acts, called ''Youngblood''. ''King Tide'' is the fifth studio album released by Australian rock band Weddings Parties Anything. The album was released in October 1993 on the RooArt label and peaked at No. 20 on the ARIA Album Charts. Billy Bragg provides the vocals with Mick Thomas on "Island of Humour". "Stalactites" marks the first occasion when all members collaborated on the writing of a WPA song and it refers to a well known Melbourne restaurant. The first single from the album, "Monday's Experts", released in August 1993, peaked at No. 45 on the ARIA Singles Charts. The two subsequent singles, "The Rain in My Heart" (December 1993) and "Island of Humour" (January 1994) however failed to chart. Michael James Thomas (born 7 February 1960) is an Australian singer-songwriter, producer, guitarist and hotelier.
