Diego Martin Sporting Complex
Diego Martin Sporting Complex is a multipurpose sporting complex in Trinidad and Tobago, situated in Savannah Terrace, Diego Martin. The foundation for the facility was laid in 2010, though the project was later abandoned. In 2016, work on the project resumed with improvements made to the original plan. The construction of the $115 million facility was completed in 2019 and was officially opened by the then Prime Minister Keith Rowley in March 2019. The plot was developed by the UDeCOTT. In November 2021, it was announced that the venue would host four matches of the 2022 Under-19 Men's Cricket World Cup. In March 2022, the Cricket West Indies (CWI) confirmed that the ground would host matches of the 2021–22 West Indies Championship. Diego Martin is a town and is the urban commercial center and capital of the Diego Martin region in Trinidad and Tobago. Its location in the region is just on the south eastern border, west of the capital city of Port of Spain and east of the town of Carenage. Diego Martin town in the Northern Range was once filled with a number of small valleys but is now a densely populated area. It was named after a Spanish explorer Don Diego Martín. The area was settled by French planters and their slaves in the 1780s. Keith Rowley
Keith Christopher Rowley (born 24 October 1949) is a Trinidadian and Tobagonian politician serving as the seventh prime minister of Trinidad and Tobago, first elected into office on 9 September 2015 and again following the 2020 general election. He has led the People's National Movement (PNM) since May 2010 and was Leader of the Opposition from 2010 to 2015. He has also served as the Member of the House of Representatives for Diego Martin West since 1991. He is a volcanologist by profession, holding a doctorate in geology, specializing in geochemistry. The 2022 ICC Under-19 Men's Cricket World Cup was an international limited-overs cricket tournament that was held in the West Indies in January and February 2022 with sixteen teams taking part. 2021–22 West Indies Championship
The 2021–22 West Indies Championship was the 55th edition of the Regional Four Day Competition, the domestic first-class cricket competition for the countries of the Cricket West Indies (CWI), which started on 9 February 2022. Six teams contested the tournament – Barbados, Guyana, Jamaica, the Leeward Islands, Trinidad and Tobago, and the Windward Islands. The series was played for the Headley–Weekes Trophy, named after George Headley and Sir Everton Weekes. Barbados were the defending champions. The last domestic first-class matches played in the West Indies took place in March 2020, during the 2019–20 West Indies Championship. The Leeward Islands cricket team is a first class cricket team representing the member countries of the Leeward Islands Cricket Association, an associate of the West Indies Cricket Board.
