Dieciocho Airport
Dieciocho Airport is an agricultural airport serving Finca Dieciocho (Farm 18) and other oil palm plantations in Puntarenas Province, Costa Rica. The airport is southeast of Palmar Sur and off the Pan-American Highway. The runway lies alongside an unpaved field access road. There are distant hills north of Dieciocho Airport. The David VOR-DME (Ident: DAV) is located east-southeast of the airport. ''Elaeis'' () is a genus of palms containing two species, called oil palms. They are used in commercial agriculture in the production of palm oil. VOR-DME
In radio navigation, a VOR/DME is a radio beacon that combines a VHF omnidirectional range (VOR) with a distance-measuring equipment (DME). The VOR allows the receiver to measure its bearing to or from the beacon, while the DME provides the slant distance between the receiver and the station. Together, the two measurements allow the receiver to compute a position fix. The VOR system was first introduced in the 1930s, but didn't enter significant commercial use until the early 1950s. There are many modes of transport in Costa Rica but the country's infrastructure has suffered from a lack of maintenance and new investment. There is an extensive road system of more than 30,000 kilometers, although much of it is in disrepair; this also applies to ports, railways and water delivery systems.
